Uniroyal Rainsports - fit to back?
Discussion
I'm having 2 new tyres fitted, and since they are Uniroyal Rain tyres, I've been advised to fit them to the back (the 2 front tyres that will be rotated from the back axle are standard tyres.
The car is FWD.
So does that sound right? New rain tyres on the back, part worn standard tyres on the front?

I've been told this in the past in fact I think some tyre manufacturers actually reccomend that the best tyres are on the rear. This debate always pops up from time to time with strong opinions in both camps. I think it's something to do with there being less weight over the rear in most cars meaning its usually the rear that slides before the front in tight turns/evasive action etc...
As for having different tyres front and rear I'm not sure I'd choose to do that as in theory you'll have a performance imbalance between the front And rear however, in practice im not sure how much difference it makes.

Yep, rotate the oldest tyres to the front, new ones on the back. Means you end up with relatively new tyres on the car at all times, not ancient old dried out ones with dozy sidewalls on the back.
There are arguments about grip levels and spinning, but I thing that's overstated. I just like having newish tyres all round.

My opinion, because there is such a lot of debate about front or back sort of proves that if you're just using your car in a normal fashion the benefits of either are going to be pretty slim. If there was clearly a case for either front or back there wouldn't be so much discussion about it. In other words it's probably not going to make much of a difference either way.

I think this is the official manufacturers advice and makes a lot of sense, but since I steer with the front wheels and in the wife's car stick the power down with them, I always have the new boots on the front, just my 2p worth. There are arguments about grip levels and spinning, but I thing that's overstated.
