So you've been talking with your friend over beer and BBQ. It's the usual conversation about cars, bikes, motorsport, trips and projects, but one suggestion shines through and is greeted with an inane grin and an evil cackle.

Given the reaction to the conversation, a friend and I are now thinking about buying a really cheap car and taking it to the ring for a weekend

My question is easily guessed:

What car would you go for?

Gotta be reasonably solid
Cheap
big enough for 2x 6'3" guys (Powerfully built and sporting projectile redbull cans hehe)
Something with plenty of available spares

Why would you choose what you have

Would it be best to go RWD, AWD or FWD?

A well fettled Volvo T5. S60 or 850, doesn't matter.

Big and comfy enough for road trip/camping etc.

Even a basic 850T5 will have no trouble knocking on for 150MPH, sounds bloody good too at full chat

Cheap to buy.

Must admit that Volvo's (as always) did spring to mind

Rear wheel drive if possible. Mk 2 MR2? BMW 325, 525, 530, 528 would be obvious starting blocks. Jag XJR X300 with the 6 cylinder supercharged engine? Old Supra? Un-modded nissan zx200? Porsche 944?
