Morning all,

Just after some opinions really. Some of you may have seen my other thread about European Holiday destinations, well the other half has suggested Paphos (Coral Bay) and I need some opinions from people who have been there.

There appear to be some great deal on villas in the area so I am already quite enthused by the idea.

Its lovely, kind of depends what you want to do while your there, if loafing on the beech is your thing then its perfect. Hire a car and Latchi (up near Aphrodite's bath) is a lovely spot and worth a drive up the Troodos mountains. We liked the food and the people very much.

What you have described there is exactly what I am after. Brilliant!

Nice quick and easy thread that one, unless anyone else has any views?

I've been a few times and it's a nice spot. As has been said, Villas/Apartments are good value and there's plenty of places to visit in a car.

I agree with Huntsman, to be honest you can't go wrong with any where in Cyprus it's a lovely island.

I've only visited Coral Bay for the day to have a quick look around, it seemed fairly quiet and self-contained but close enough to Paphos to make it handy.

I stayed in the Kato Paphos area and found it a good base for exploring on foot and a relaxing place to be - lovely island in general IMO.

That's where we've stayed - short stroll to the harbour and plenty of nightlife.

Coral Bay is lovely and the water is chrystal clear

- which is good because we spent most of the time avoiding floaters!

I'm flying to Paphos early- mid July, but actually staying in Larnaca, I assume I won't be disappointed either then? Don't fancy floaters!smile

Hire a car, plenty to see and all within easy reach (it's a small island and the motorways are decent).

Some super roads up in the Troodos mountains too if you fancy a blat (while up there check out the the Kykkos Monastery)

I was in Cyprus for 2 months on my elective, grabbed a tourist guide and visited most of the museums or interesting archeological sites (and thrashed the poor Suzuki Alto around the mountain twisties). There's a lot more than just beaches!

Proper sandwiches for any self-respecting PHer!

Never stayed in Paphos but spent a day there and it's lovely.

I've stayed in Protarus up the road and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fantastic friendly people, great food, stunning beaches and scenery.

I'll retire there one day.

Just don't mention zee war!

Right well we have booked, staying here for a week (http://www.villaplus.com/cyprus/code/villas/villaindividual.asp?id=928).

Price was right, and is secluded enough for me.

Thanks for all the tips everyone!

If you have time, eat at the Seven St Georges Tavern, on the outskirts of Paphos.

The food was brilliant and the home produced wine fantastic.

Apparently, me and the Mother in Law were totally drunk

Hire a car and go across to Northern Cyprus. You can get on the beach at Famagusta.
Very surreal place. Troodos is a must do as others have said. Another surreal view is the ski lift on Mt Olympus when it's 30+ degrees.

That crane has to collapse soon. Untouched since the Turks invaded and stripped most of it bare in '74.
There is a lift shaft that has collapsed but technically no photo's allowed so had to be sneaky.
Allegedly deserted. I suspect there are a fair few lurking in there.

We last went in 2010 and found Cyprus very different to before, another once beautiful and friendly country soundly eurof@cked.
Limmasol was like a ghost town. Paphos and Ayia Nappa were Ok still but still felt rather dejected.

Oh - your really close to the strip in coral bay there. There are a fwe good restaurants on the strip Siriani sticks in the mind- but saying that we have never had a bad meal in cyprus.

Also on the main road to St georges there is Philipos supermarket which should see you through and has great fresh salad and veg. If you have a car I would recomend troodos as others have said also go watch the sunset from St Georges bay which is just top the north of coral bay its absolutely lovely.

I think he's referring to the Turkish invasion* of 1974.

  • Invasion if you're a Greek Cypriot, not if you're a Turkish Cypriot hehe
