Cars eh?

I've been having some problems with my 986S recently (engine check light, loss of performance). So I bought a code checker, and it pointed to a troublesome MAF. I cleaned it, but to no avail, so I took the plunge on a 'new' one from ebay, taken from a car broken for parts. I knew this was a risk, but for £50, I thought it was worth a punt.

Now, you're probably expecting me to say that it didn't work, and I wasted my money... but no - happily, once the 'new' MAF was in place, the car had all its previous pep back.

But... during the test run, the low coolant level light came on. I now have a drip from the right front wheel area, so I'm guessing a radiator has let go. Fingers crossed it's just a pipe, but I fear the worst.

Just thought I'd share my troubles!

Cheers! I know there's no logic to these things, but in two years of ownership, my old Jag XJ8 (with 160,000+ miles on it) never gave me any trouble, while this 50k miler Porker seems intent on ruining me!

More likely the radiator has suffered from corrosion which occurs due to a build up/accumulation of trash (plant/leaf litter mainly) in the radiator duct area and especially between the A/C condensor and the radiator.

If this is not keep clean with air (compressed air or a leaf blower) the front bumper cover should be removed and the A/C condensors unbolted (partially) to swing then out of the way enough to remove all trash.

But it could be a hose.

Or the lower portion of the radiator particularly vulnerable has taken a hit from some road debris (a tire carcass or the front was bottomed on a dip or a curb was nudged too hard when parking) was hit which cracked the lower portion of the radiator. (I lost a Boxster's radiator to a tire carcass a few years back.)

Regardless do not delay getting this taken care of. That the system is able to maintain pressure is vital to the cooling system properly cooling the engine.

Sincerely,

Rockster.
