Traffic Lights fubared. Result: much better traffic flow
Discussion
Set of lights near me out of action this morning (Leeds, Armley Road/Stanningley Road/Branch Road/Ledgard Way (Mikes Carpets)) and the traffic flowed so much better than usual.
I've noticed this before. Sure, there are one or two 'holes trying to bully their way across the junction but most people work it out with due care and consideration and the traffic flow is so much better.
Do we have too many traffic light controlled junctions?

Yes we do.
I’ve spend some time in the US and Canada and I find 3 or 4 way Stops signs to be a much better solution on small to medium junctions.
They also teach the concept of taking turns to advance which means drivers generally drive better on merging lanes.
And allow a lot of discretion to move out of turn if the road is clear.
