How many are left
Discussion
Don't know whether this has been covered before, as the search facility on here is "Pants!"
I've just bought a 1987 350i and thought I'd check out how many are left.
I was really surprised to see how few are left in the UK, but happy to be working on mine to keep it on the road for the future; 103 "On the road", 130 "SORN" with mine as 1 of 3 left that are "On the road" from 1987 :-)
I'm just working on getting the dash replaced, as the timber was absolutely shot to bits; warped, flaking and generally in a pretty poor state all round, that's the timber, not me!
Below are a few pics of my attempt at machining a replacement dashboard panel and glovebox lid, N.B. This is still a work in progress, with finishing required to the inside faces of all of the cut outs, I'll do this before I veneer the front face.
Cost to date: 15mm thick 1.25metre sample of strip oak and acacia flooring (will ensure that this stays straight and true, with minimal warping in the future) - £7.39, 2 x brass butt hinges - £3.29, 6 hours of labour - £untold cursing, Matched set of Burr Walnut Veneer - £20.00 to complete all areas, to include; door strips, pull handles, centre console, both sides of glovebox lid and front face of dashboard, Piano-lac - £17.69 - should be enough to do the whole set.
So far, so good, just waiting for my veneer to arrive now.
More pics to follow as time progresses (and work, kids and the wife allows).

Pretty knackered inside the dash and interior.

The original, is made out of MDF and is Bent as a "9 Bob Note"

Apologies for the "Rubbish" quality pictures.

Oh 1 more thing:
I've got to get rid of those awful 17" TSW Alloys!
They don't look too bad, but they're way too big, and make the car's handling terrible, tram-lining everywhere, and rubbing on full lock on the inside edges.
They've been on the car for a while though, as I spotted some pitures of the car from 2008 with them on it then.
I'll be keeping my eyes open for a replacement set of lattice wheels.
So if anyone is selling a set (or giving them away to a new home) please bear me in mind.

Hi Adam,
The graph is from the "How Many are Left" website, which tracks via the DVLA, how many vehicles are registered either on the road or SORNed and relates to TVR Tasmins
Here's the link to the website for you:
http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_tasmin#!years
Hope this helps?

I see, the missing category http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_missing would, I think, appear to be the missing 350i's. As around 2000 were made in or around 1984-1989. Tasmins are probably 200's and 280i's.
Other models are listed separately, and the number made of granturas, vixens etc were relatively small, weren't they?
We could look at the curves, they all show a similar yearly decline, and work out how much of the "missing" is non-wedges from projecting the original production figures.
PS I like the obvious 6-month fluctuation - tight wads taxing their cars just for the summer!!! ;^)

Hi
just been looking at this post and thought it must be wrong as i bought my 1984 280i in August 2010 and have had it sorned since then til march this year when i finally got it mot'd and back on the road
However i think the reason my wedge didnt show up on the data is that there is no model type listed on my V5C resistration document it just states
Make: TVR
Model:
Body type: SPORTS
Anyone else have this?
Wonder how many others out there?
Still must make my car a rare beast as the dvla dont know of any other 1984 registered tvr tasmins either Sorned or on the road - or perhaps not? maybe our fellow wedgers on this forum know of others?

How many left, will only be as good as the company giving the info, which for TVR they were not good at for many reasons !! My 350i which is not a 350 anymore was simply registered as a TVR so no model will be included as other, if TVR did register as a Tasmin thats what it got shown as. How many left is good for most big manufacturers but for the likes of say TVR and Lotus take it with a pinch of salt.
