I do a fair amount of cycling each week - usually condensed into 3 pretty intense sessions . . . 2 @ Newport VeloDrome (c5 hours total) and 1 outside road session (c4 hours in total) - I love my cycling but really want to take it to the next level.

Would like to improve my outright speed and my stamina.

Short Sprints are my forte currently.

If I committed myself to an additional hour a day - what could/should I be concentrating upon. I hate going (and refuse to go) to the gym, have various weights, a power-plate, some rollers at home and live within easy walking distance of Glastonbury TOR, which is a good, hour-long-lung-buster with 3 hilly efforts.

PS - pleeeeeeeeeeese no "MTFU" comments smile

Chris Carmichael's "time crunched cyclist" is pretty good if you dont already have it.

might be worth looking at a coached or a club session if you are serious as you sound like you want to start racing so that sort of experience will be invaluable....or you could just take the plunge and get along to the castle combe summer series though there are probably closer closed circuit events nearer to you, this is the only one I know!

Ah that makes more sense, the time travelling to newport seems a bit mad to me when you have the levels on your doorstep, but then I have never ventured into a velodrome.

I used to live in Wells, now nearer bristol but climbing the mendips daily to work was a charm for me speed wise.

I live in Glastonbury LOL - from home . . . walking up the TOR, long way up - short way down - short way up - long way down + side road up & back home again takes 45 mins = 3 hills!

it is great where we live - the Mendips can be a KILLER from here or you can choose an easy-peasey 50 to WSM without a sniff of a hill!

I want to improve my VeloDrome performance.

You should try it - it bloody awesome.

Want to improve stamina, then I would say threshold rides are good. I did a lot of hour threshold rides prior to racing, they really help.

Riding as hard as you can for an hour without stopping.

More recently to improve my stamina further I've been doing 5 hour rides at hard pace, sometimes spending over an hour and a half of that time at threshold pace. Its just pushing yourself I guess. I'm trying to improve on hills and its just a suffer fest basically.
