Just having a nose through the classifieds as you do and came across this: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3925316.htm is it worth a cheeky offer or is it likely to cost me the purchase price again to keep it on the road for the next 12 months?

She is a nice thing, obviously any TVR is going to cost you money over your time of ownership but at the sale price you have enough room to spend some money on it and still have it not owing you wrong... You never know come and have a look at her, she might float your boat and you will certainly have a bit of fun in the sun this summer.

px to clear usually means fked!! but its a good looking car and my advise would be to negotiate a price you'd be happy paying for car but on the condition that you can get a good indy to inspect it before making final sale. it'll cost you about £300 to have it looked at and the garage would have to agree to let the car go to the indy's garage but this shouldn't be a problem and if it is then walk away! it'll need to go some where that can take the rocker cover of and inspect the engine, the engine and chassis are what's going to cost you if they are wrong!

speed six's are great cars and sound awsome with the right exhaust! APM i think are your best choice over that part of the country or someone else might suggest someone.

It isnt that cheap unless a recent(ish) rebuild and good chassis.

In this instance it means we don't usually sell this sort of car, its come in px and we would like to clear it out of the way to free the space.

I have driven the car a bit and it is nice, does what it says on the tin - makes a load of noise, bit exciting and the colour is proper. If it were a bit more comfy I would probably use it through the summer myself but an S-Class is more my cup of tea these days! Getting old...!!

If I were into the market for a cerb it would have to be a Speed 6... if you gotta have a GT type of car what with having a roof and back seats and all, a bit more give in the suspension and a somewhat less hyperactive steering would stand it in good light... enlarge engine to 4.5 litres or so for the ultimate 'I'm an old man now but not old enough for an Aston' gentleman's express. biggrinwink

just reminds me of when i was younger and having to look at the px cars which were around the back of the garage and not the nice shiny ones on the forecourt.

If it needs engine work too...the bill just to keep her on the road could be approaching £10k, so i would spend money getting both chassis and engine checked.

Add into the mix whether the clutch, and suspension components look like and it COULD be a very expensive cerb...

What i dont understand is how a company can sell a car without warranty - under the sale of goods act there has to be a 3 month warranty by law doesnt there?

Hi,

Engine seems to do its job, makes a lot of noise and go's well.

censored

Regards the warranty, I understand under the SOGA the car needs to be fit for purpose which it is. Warranties are in this instance fairly irrelevant as we could warranty it for 3 months, but what really would be the point. If I managed to find a warranty company that would cover a TVR and they must exist, I would imagine the warranty to be so cheap and have so many holes in it that the new owner if they did want to make a claim would be sorely disappointed and get tied up in insurance company nonsense.

For the other stuff we sell we use a car care warranty and everything has 12 months min, they are expensive and cover everything. They do not touch TVR like most warranty companies.

If your going to buy a TVR you need to know what your getting into but at the end of the day this is a pretty rare british built sports car which accelerates 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and goes all the way up to 180mph is packaged in a stunning body which in this case is painted bright yellow for good measure and for ten grand.

Little too much info, don't want it to start sounding like a advert eh? wink

Speed six engine doesnt spoil the way it looks although it is very original looking ie Speed Six Mk 2s retained the older front lights and still had the smaller wheels at this point. I quite like it though, despite the colour and engine ;-)

I really dont mean to be rude or flippant but the engine is potentially the biggest moneypit in the car, i know, i have been there. The speed 6 engine can go well and make a great noise...up until the point it pukes up a follower shim which breaks the oil pump chain and you end up doing terminal damage....or the engine consumes more oil than fuel in the first 1000 miles due to the crap OEM valve guides. Before you know it you have a choice, pay £6k to put it right properly or move it on with a blown engine, either way, its a bit risky?!

Neither of these can be evaluated from a test drive, and im not suggesting that this car is going to do this, but its a bit misleading simplify it to 'sounds good and goes well'

My advice to the OP, go in with your eyes open, recent clutch is a good thing, but for gods sake make sure you check the rest of it!!

Is the slight discolouration above the exhausts typical for a Speed Six?

Typical for most Cerbs tbh, just fuel/soot staining.

I've met one of the chaps who runs this place brother when collecting a TVR dealer sign recently and if he's even half as decent as him then I would expect this to be an honest car and description.

Another thing to consider is that the car appears to have been owned by a TVRCC member at some point (Tax disc holder) and also has the steering wheel sticker upgrade and the not so cheap gear surround so would suggest it has been well cared for in it's life.

I'd have more confidence in buying this than a £7k basket case.
