Having a nightmare at the moment, lost the one and only key to my girlfriends Honda Del-Sol this week

We've asked neighbours if anyone's picked it up outside and the police if anyone's handed them in but nothing, so I think my only option is to get a new one

How would I go about this? Would an ordinary lock smith get us into the car?

The AA or similar can usually help get you into a locked car, but I guess that's only useful if the keys or something important are inside.

A friend of mine lost his S2000 key a few years back.
He had to take ID and the V5 to his local Honda dealer. They ordered a new pair of keys for him. Then with new key in steering lock he towed the car to them to have it coded.

Not sure a DelSol will have coded keys, but either way, I'd start by calling your nearest Honda dealer.

Call your breakdown service, they will most likely have an agreement with a company and you will get a reduced cost key replacement.

Failing that, call a company called Car and Key services - 0845 8802660

They work for pretty much all the breakdown companies.

From what I can gather you may have been better off if the key was stolen...

(cough)

Honda might be able to provide a pre-cut key if you provide the VIN for the car and it's still got the original locks.

My 1989 CRX was a bit too old for this. But the key from Honda was only £8 in 2007.

If it's not got an alarm, they are surprisingly easy to break into using another Honda key from a car from the same period.

This, When we needed replacement keys for Px cars we often went through main dealers. V5 etc was all we needed.

Great little cars, hope you get it sorted

Note - if its an import (and a lot of Del Sols were) Honda wont be able to do the key off the chassis number.
