Anyone who listens to 6 music will have heard a song called Spitfire which imo is very good.
I have just had my first listen of the full EP and bloody hell it's brilliant, totally bloody brilliant. Only 5 songs and I really hope this is just a part one. It centres on the early part of WW2 starting with the decleration of War and ending at Dunkirk.
It is basicly a real life version of War of the Worlds. Instead of Richard Burtons voice you have Neville Chamberlain (I think) and various perfect 1940's BBC voices from the period mixed over some excellent modern music.
It is quite emotive and sobering and sets a scene. The final piece 'Waltz for George' is so comparable with parts of War of the Worlds it must have been planned to do so.

Google turned up this thread after i started looking for Public Service Broadcasting related stuff.
Took the dog out for her walk yesterday evening, and as my iPod was flat, decided to use the phone and BBC Radio Player. (New phone with unlimited data package, so new toy!)
Put 6 music on, and was listening to "The Ultimate Pet Shop Boys Playlist" with Tom Robinson.
He played "Spitfire" (with the tenuous link that both bands have "PSB" as their initials) - what a corking tune.
Have now downloaded "The War Room" and wonder how on earth I have missed this for the best part of a year!

Here's a pop fact for you. Lit up on the album has a sample over it of a chap talking about the 'fleet lit up like fairy lamps.'
That sample is a famous broadcast from 1937. Lft Commander Thomas Woodrooffe was a BBC journalist & was asked to commentate on the review of the fleet at Spithead. Anyway, he got highly refreshed with his mates in the pub beforehand & the BBC cut the broadcast - everything was live in those days - after a few minutes of his rambling.
It's quite famous & they've stuck it on that track.
