Squeaking window - MCS

Any tips on how to stop the window squeaking as it goes up and down on our 2005 MCS?

It's driving my wife mad !!!

On a more serious note, where does it squeek? top, bottom, all the way?

Not entirely sure, but I think she said when it was near the top.

Take the door panel off and grease the sliders?

The door panel on those is a bit of a pian to remove, plus they don't really have sliders as such. The class is clamped to blocks which run up and down the mechanism.

I would think the most likely is the rubber door seals. Make sure they are correclt seated, and then clean them with a silicone spray.

What I forgot to mention was it does it when the door is open so it can't be the rubber seals.

Also, it only squeaks going up (closing) and near the top.

Why not ? The glass slides along the rubber seals at the top of the door.

When the door is open the glass isn't in contact with the rubber seals as they surround the body.

The actual door is frameless !

Just go and look at your car and find the rubber seals on both sides of the top of your (frameless indeed) door, I promise you your door has a top, where the glass starts and where the metal skin stops...

I see what you mean - of course you are correct.

Sorry, I meant there isn't a 'frame' at the top of the glass. A poor description on my part !

So, the squeak is coming from those seals you have highlighted in red. It sounds like running fingernails down a blackboard.

I'm not sure what to use to 'lubricate' the seals as I don't want to smear the window each time it goes up & down.

Yeah you might get streaks to start with BUT you might also manage to "feed" the rubber which might now be a bit porous, and that could make it a bit more supple and help the noise. Loads of products avaialble, there is an Autoglym Rubber product. My favourite is Einszett Gummi Pflege which can be found easily on ebay for around £10. Clean the seals with a 1:10 dilution of APC (All Purpose Cleaner, like Flash), dry throroughly and then apply which ever product you choose. Not guaranteed but it should help. Best of.
