Loose Weight. Improve Performance!

Loose Weight. Improve Performance!
Many of us Wedge owners are always dreaming up ways of improving the performance of our Wedge. Some of us want to increase the cubic capacity, others fit turbo chargers and superchargers, high lift cams, pocketed pistons etc. etc. The thing is, there is one thing that is always overlooked, and that my friend is WEIGHT. I am not only talking about the unnecessary weight we carry in the boot, but the unnecessary weight some of us owners carry naturally. Yes, I am talking about FAT. I for one have taken the necessary steps and become a regular at the gym. I jog, I only eat lean, plenty of fruit and veg, and I don’t drink alcohol or fizzy. Already, I have lost almost three stone and feel better and lighter. Now, three stone is a sack of potatoes. Imagine carrying that in the Wedge all day. Less performance, higher fuel consumption and bad health. Take a leaf out of my book. Loose weight and improve your performance. You know it makes sense. I am sure most women will confirm my findings.
PS. No offence intended. Just friendly health advice.

I HATE to say this...But Tony.."You are right"....Just before christmas i lost nearly a stone in weight and the wedge definitely felt more spritely..However..I have become somewhat complacent and have lapsed into lethargic behaviour again and have put just over a stone back on..Im nearly 4 stone overweight now..
..And i never ate all the pies!!..Although i love a bit of cake and chocolate..
...I really must start to make an effort again as i feel drained of energy and the floorboards are starting to creak under my feet...Plus if i do pop me clogs then it will probably take an extra two people to carry me..Ziga

Plus that cheap Chinese plywood zig mat not stand up to the extra stress mate, but that weight does increase ya blood pressure which puts more stress on ya pump and makes ya liver all fatty thus impeding its effectiveness,I know coz I've been told by the doc, trouble is I can't seem to get under 14 stone, got any cheap remedies, not a gym, they're for posers!

A scapel..A small length of garden hose and a hoover with good suction..."Hang on"..
..Maybe not..well to be honest its all down to eating the right foods and regular exercise..Diets are rubbish as people tend to eat less which makes the body store food..Little and often helps keep the metabolism working at a good rate..Chillies or chilli powder can actually help speed up the metabolism, Part of my diet when i lost a stone in under a month was home made bread with a tablespoon of chilli powder in the mix..I do love me bread..In fact the tin that the bread machine uses to mix and bake the bread actually broke so i have gone back to buying bread and since then i feel bloated..Tired and my joints ache..Very strange..Must replace the tin...Dont eat food late in the evening if you can help it especially before you go to bed!!..Have a cut off time for carbohydrates sometime in the late afternoon or early eveining..Cut out fat..salt and excess sugar..Eat plenty of ruffage..Exercise at least half an hour a day making sure that you raise your heart rate and breathing...You will start to feel more energetic as the oxygen gets pumped through your blood..The hardest part of all this is keeping it up everyday..Something which i struggle with..However there is another way..Buy a neighbour a small dog..Get them to train it so it only chases you..And bite if it catches you!!..Plan a route around the block..Joggers on..Leave 30 secs before the dog is set loose..Simples..But make sure it is a small dog as large ones can run a lot faster and catch you a lot quicker!!..

From the grumpy old sod in the corner...
Gripe 1. First of all the only way you can loose weight without surgical intervention is probably with a shot putt. OH, I see you mean LOSE weight. Zig, I didn't know you had a fetish about Elizabethan collars either. (think about it) Jeez, the speeling on thys Booard gits woarse eviry thyme i visat...
Gripe 2. It's all well and good if you happen to be a fat b*stard, but some of us happen to be 2 meters tall and broad across the shoulders and weigh over 100 kilos even when we look like we've not eaten for several months.... and I just barely fit under the wedge hood panel, even after taking all the packers out of the seat and taking some of the foam out too ....
So for us poor buggers the ONLY way to get the wedge to go faster is to get the fancy power bits...
It's STILL the most fantastic classic to drive, even if I haven't got a V8,
it's still quick enough to overtake and sounds wonderful.
No sack of spuds, BUT I wouldn't go without the toolbox in the boot.
Pity about the TR7 thing though, which still annoys the crap out of me....Sigh...

Tony - with your new trim figure do you now have to wear padding for your act? No-one wants to see a skinny Elvis mate!!
;^)
I have had three of the suits altered, the rest are hanging off me at the moment. I will alter them all soon, but slim makes you look taller and sexier. Need I say more?;^)

I have read all and agree we should be healthier, but as RCK says some of us are of a larger build and cant help being 6ft and large boned weighing 15st or so compared to someone being 5ft and small boned at 13st.
Who's going to turn to there wife or girlfriend and say for f**k sake would you loose weight your feckin slowing us down. [Not me,i'm a mouse] Just think of the nagging and then silent treatment you'll get for 6 months [hmmmm].
Anyway say i lost 1st and she didnt because i didnt ask her, what dfference would that make to the car pumping out 255bhp,would that make it a nanno second faster??
Answers please.
Yours from a coffin [because i asked her] jonny.

Well jonny as its all about power to weight ratio then i think it does matter..Quite considerably...Yesterday i gave a friend a lift to pick up his tin top, He weighs close to 17 stone as do i!..Thats 34stone = 215Kg..When i was pulling away it felt like it was in 4th!..Yes the bonnet was lifting but it wasnt through power..Then speed bumps that i normally clear were hitting my exhaust..
..Im not taking any more passengers unless they are like the irish girl..She only weighed in about 9 stone..Oh well..The performance is back to usual, A bit sluggish with room for improvement..Especially around the steering wheel department..

Your right mark when your talking about a lot of stones extra, i was only talking about 1 or 2 stone difference.

You'll need a supercharger bud.
I'm just telling the wife to leave her makeup bag behind when going to the fest.jonny.
So is this a topic about fat blokes that should be thinner/healthier, or perfomance gains in the car. If its about perfomance gains then unless we are talking track day thrashing the nuts off type driving, no one will notice any difference whatsoever with a 1-2 stone difference. Even on a track you would probably only be talking 10th's of a second a lap.
You could always strip off to your undies to lesson the weight that jeans/t shirt and shoes might add.
Now if it's the former, then being skinny or healthy is not the be all and end all. Very few people are at their optimum in life but most survive well into old age. Ok, we could be healthier/fitter but the question remains--WHY???
If you're not happy, then do something about it, if you are happy then have another pie and a pint and enjoy watching the sufferers wanting a pie

Yeah, sorry if the spelling jibe was a bit nasty - my wierd sense of humour sometimes gets me into trouble.... Good [Ruff] reply Zig !!
If I do have a heavy passenger in the wedge, as Zig says, the thing I notice most is that the exhaust scrapes on those F**king speed bumps !! I don't notice it being that much different on performance.
And I wouldn't DARE suggest anything about dieting to my beloved partner - my life (and probably the wedge's too) would be shortened considerably!
