Theres a local indy next to our offices, they tend to get a lot of business from our office, for our company cars / vans etc as it's convenient & they tend to do good work, although you pay a premium for this.
(I have another local indy who i use who's a lot better & a lot cheaper)!
A while back my colleagues car had an issue, so he took it into he garage, they had to take the door cards out & when putting it back together, did'nt connect the speaker properly, my colleague raised this with them & they said bring it back in anytime & they'd re-connect, so this morning he takes it back over there to be re-connected, he goes over a moment ago to check if it's been done, (it's been there for about 4 hours & he'd not heard anything yet).
He goes into their reception area, only to be told that one of the mechanics has taken his car out on an errand, now correct me if i'm wrong, but surely that's massively un-acceptable?!
I could understand if it had needed a road-test, but for a speaker, seriously?!
My colleague was speechless & did'nt really say anything, but i'd be bloody pissed off if it was me!
Turns out it's just returned & has been out for approximately 30minutes!

A test drive - no problem. Using it for anything else is a complete no go in my book, I would be seriously pissed off if a garage did that in my car.

I always take a picture of the mileage when I hand the keys over, and when I got the Astra back from it's MOT it had 112 extra miles on it. Raised it with the garage manager who just claimed that he couldn't explain it. None of my cars have ever been back there, and I have made sure that no one else that I know takes their car there either. Bunch of fking cowboys.

I don't think any of the staff will be taking their cars over there, Road-Test to make sure a front speaker had been re-connected properly? Debatable.
Especially for 1/2 an hour?!
The bod on the reception said it'd been taken out to run a small errand.

My mechanic often borrows my Hilux for errands when it’s with him.
Once he did a test drive for 150 miles to the next city, the next time I found a load of brochures for paint in the boot, so I assume he’d taken it to buy paint.
I’m not bothered ‘cos he’s a good mechanic and always looks after the car cheaply for me.
He’s also quite happy to lend me a car if I need one while mines in.

But, if it was a main dealer or a generic garage then I’d be bloody annoyed.

Completely unaccaptable - especially if the bod on reception is freely admitting it! Very poor show.

My dad was having some work done on his car - garage offered to collect car from him.

He was somewhat surprised when two mechanics turned up in a police car

It's fine as long as they've driving/road testing it. If they're in the back it's an issue hehe

Totally agree with this. We get all our cars looked after by an old family friend who specialises in PSA cars, hence the reason why I always buy a Peugeot or Citroen now. The amount of money he's saved us and the rest of family is massive including a very troublesome 307 which had the dreaded anti-pollution fault. Diagnosing the fault and including all the work that was needed to correct it (including software upgrades), Peugeot apparently would have asked for a bill of near a grand. He snuck the car in one night for the software upgrades and only charged us £150. When the springs went on it he only asked for £30 each to replace them.

I've picked cars up before with a few extra miles on the clock but I honestly don't mind when he's saving us so much money and is someone who you know you can trust and won't shaft you and make jobs up. Obviously if I got it back with a few extra thousand on it I'd be asking questions but the odd 20 there and there doesn't bother me. If anything it's a bit of a compliment that he's interested in my car enough to want a quick drive of it.

Years ago my dad dropped his car off at the garage for a service. He then walked into town to get some lunch and noticed his car was parked outside Boots!!

Luckily he had the spare key on him so drove it back to the garage and asked what the fk they were playing it.

I bet the mechanics st it when they finished their shop and realised the car had gone!!

What sort of car is it? Something tasty that they just couldn't refuse to take?

I would happily let the VW specialist who services my car use it for an errand. I trust him, and I know he wouldn't needlessly rag it.

It does yes I once left my battered old 106 1.5d with a mechanic who is good friends with my mums fiance (confusing I know) and when I collected it, it had 55miles extra on the clock.

fk knows where they'd gone in it, I can't exactly remember what work was needed, but it didn't warrant a long test drive.

I simply never took my car back. When the BMW went in the garage after bump I was extremely nervous, especially as I didn't note the mileage. When it came back the avg mpg was 35 (lower than I've ever managed to get it) and I'm sure the rear tyres were quite a bit down on tread. To this day I rage at the thought of a mechanic with a complete lack of respect ragging the fk out of my car mad

My dad had this years ago when he had a Focus C-Max that was in for a warranty job as p.s. failed. A very prolific company that may or may not rhyme with tardy. The car had 75miles more on it when collected - 3 days later than promised. The epitome of utter cowboyism. I called on 3 occasions, requesting callback from dealer principal, no response. E-mailed their complaints dept. and same.
This experience put me off Fords until I bought wifey a Puma last year. Would never, ever recommend them and always have a good laugh when following a Vauxhall with their dealer sticker in the window. After I get over the humour of the car, I get great entertainment from the fact they bought it from Peter V.

A day off and a garage bill? Must get expensive?

No.

I have a company car so everything is paid for. The service takes circa 2 hours, and I spend that time drinking endless free hot drinks, using the free wifi and reading the daily newspapers.

As it's during work time, I'm getting paid to wait.
