Snetterton 300 June 6th

Yes I,m there on the 6th also. Full daytime session. First time around Snetterton. Will be in a little red Nissan Almera gti probably chasing my mate in a silver scooby wagon.

Looking like this could be a wet one. Not keen on ripping around an unfamiliar wet track. Fingers crossed the weather brightens up a bit before wednesday. Anybody know how wet it needs to be before club msv cancel the event? Dont want to lose £180 quid for the day so would feel obliged to go anyway and hope there,s some dry time.But if they cancel I can put the credit towards another day.

Pretty sure it has to be apocalyptic-monsoon-houses-washed-away before they'll cancel, not a spit or two like we're having now.

I'm at snetterton on Thursday except I'll be riding a motorbike. I'd quite like to do a wet car day, you tend to learn more.

Thats what I thought.But I dont really feel I wanna improve my wet driving ( as they suggest in their non cancellation bumf ), have been driving for 30 years, bikes,lorries ,buses and cars including a few years as a london bike despatch rider amongst other things. Driving anything in the rain is no fun really especially if you are paying for it. Did a track day years ago around Brands in the rain on a bike ( with 8 other despatchers at the time funnily enough )and it was just plain dangerous. The problem is also ,it doesnt matter how careful you are , there,s always some idiot out there with no common sense who can take you out and there,s nothing you can do about it( I know this is true for the dry also, but more likely in the rain).Good luck Thursday mate, lets hope the weather improves.

It's a shame you're not going in something RWD, you could explore the post-limit handling characteristics a bit more reasonably. It won't be a lot of fun in a FWD car though, no. Is the Primera particularly flickable?

Its an Almera, a bit smaller than the primera. Flickable enough (in the dry ) but as mentioned above first proper track day in a car ( have done the Ring a good few times on both cars and bikes, and a few track days years ago on bikes )and first time around Snetterton. A mates going in his Scooby and he,s adamant he,s going out come whatever. If I can get 20+ dry laps ( + a few wet ones maybe for sighting ) in during the day then I wont feel like its money wasted. Fingers and everything else crossed.

I was there yesterday, doing a sprint on the 100 track, while there was a track day taking place on the 200. Some of us sprinters went to watch the track day while we waited for the marshals to pump the water off the sprint course... The weather ranged from drizzle to apocalyptic, and while they didn't cancel the track day, lots of people either didn't turn up, or gave up and went home. There was standing water in a lot of places and several people running semi-slick track tyres said there was no grip whatsoever. And the steady stream of rescue trucks taking away the smashed remains attested to that.

Semi slick tyres in rain..mmmm ( what did I say about people with no common sense ). I,m running some Yoko AD08,s, which are road legal , track oriented tyres. Been told excellent in dry and " safe enough " in the wet. Much better apparently than

Hit the wrong button half way through there. As I said , AD08,s are better in the rain than something like the Toyo 888,s which apparently aquaplane like crazy on standing water and are generally a bit naff in wet conditions ( superb in dry though , had a good few laps around Nurburgring on these and they are excellent ). Whatever will be will be, if its like Waterworld out there then I,ll probably swallow on the money or try and sweet talk club msv into letting me move the credit. Pray to the sun gods everyone whose going and good luck.

I'm there in the evening for the BMW only noob session. Looking forward to it! Hopefully it won't all be modern M-cars otherwise I'll be being constantly overtaken.

The weather forecast suggests light rain showers in the afternoon, so hopefully no standing water.

I quite enjoy wet days, best ones for me are variable conditions as obviously its fun blatting it on a bone dry track, but I fine that gets bit boring. On monday at bedford it was raining all day in patches and the track and grip levels were constantly changing. Made for a very entertaining day!

P.S my first day at Snetts was in the snow earlier this year... in a car with over 500bhp. st myself BADLY when it went snapped sideways at big speed in 4th gear on the straight

R888's are actually very good in wet conditions in my opinion and experience. They cant handle massive amounts of standing water... but if its just a wet track, they will be better than most road tyres and better than an AD08 I think you will find

Did my first race on the Snetterton 300 on R888s - interesting! Snetterton does seem to suffer quite badly from standing water, especially around Coram (which looked like glass) and the run up from Murray's to the pit lane entrance:

What an excellent day! few spits of rain at lunch but it was dry right until we came of at 5, must have been fun in the bmw's in the evening!

Had a superb day also, great weather until a few spots of rain and some dodgy clouds about 3.30ish made us cut and run. Brilliant track, was glad I couldnt get Brands Indy booked in the end as it knocks spots off that. Rained like billio on the way back to London though. Very friendly people down there although I,m told the Club MSV lot are a good bunch anyway. Only negative was that a couple of friends booked some half hour sessions in the Peugeot hire cars and apparently the instructors are a bit full on, dont stop talking from start to finish. Both friends say they didnt get a chance to relax even for a few laps because of the constant jabbering. They still loved it though. We,re all itching to get up there again ASAP now. Just gotta sort my clutch out as it started to slip a little towards the end. Recommend it to anyone , best day out I,ve had in a long time.

Sorry Knowlseyboy, I meant to ask what were you in , as mentioned I was in the little red Almera,and my mate who was supposed to be in his Subaru ( wasnt ready in time ) ended up taking out his Chrysler PT Cruiser for the sake of it. Went out for a few laps with him as passenger, we did not stop laughing.
