Anyone explain this oddity?

Hired a motorhome for a holiday last week, went to Wales. Speedo was in kph since it was a continental model.
Not a problem, satnav tells me my speed.
That was until i hit the roadworks on the M6. The current speed display froze then flickered and vanished.
Everything else was there on the screen and ok.
Turned unit off and on, no change.
It still knew how fast i was doing as it warned me i was speeding.
A week later, on the return journey, on the M6, in the roadworks, the current speed display flickered, froze and went back to normal.
What would cause that?
It literally vanished for a week, leaving a blank space, everything else worked ok!
