been seeing a lot of these recently, few days ago spotted a MK5 Golf GTi with ' 2 RPM '

then on my way home from work spotting a 10yr old BMW 3series with ' 3 CZ '

just cannot understand, i'm sure many of these plates have been handed down through the family but driving a under £5k car

with is a £50k plus reg seems pointless to me

Why not?
A decent plate could hold it's value or appreciate. 99% of cars won't and the older they are, the less they depreciate. Could actually be quite savvy.

There's a Sierra around Bristol (rare enough in itself) with JOD1E. Has to be worth a few pounds.

Ha! Saw that one the other day down Stapleton road. An incongruous combination I thought.

This comes up a lot on the 'Real good number plates' thread.

Some people aren't bothered by flash cars or may have had the plate for many years before they were worth anything like what they are now.

There is a taxi driver in Nottingham who has 'VAL 1' on his 307SW taxi - it's been in the family for over 25 years so didn't cost him the tens of thousands it's worth now.

I saw 7 E or similar on a toyota avensis the other day, arent those meant to be expensive? Although you see them advertise for big money on websites is that what actually go for?

I've seen 1 RAE on a Ford Scorpio. Can't remember where, but you don't see many Scorpio's these days.

Valuable plate and mundane tatty old car? I absolutely love smile Not only is it perfect reverse snobbery - lovely plate I know but couldn't honestly a give a fjuck old chap - it drives the numberplate aficionados absolutley wild as they just don't get it.

I just checked, and according to askmid, the "F1" plate that Afzal Khan bought a few years ago is currently on a JCB, rather than one of his Veyrons.

What if they bought it new 10 years ago and saw no reason to throw it away and buy a new one simply because it was 10 years old?

I like it...

I also like the fact that it's probably the only nice thing you can own these days that other jelous people can't nick, damage etc etc...
