I know people will prob laugh but my 98 civic 1.4 is such a cracking little car.

The ride is amazing for a small car, goes well, quiet, comfortable, handles pretty well and is really nicely balanced in the corners.

Elec sunroof, elec mirrors, pas, I've had it four years now and it never misses a beat.

Great little car smile

Big fan of the fiat panda - great fun little car. Also really like the original Ford Ka

I reckon almost any car made in the last 10-15 years has at least one or two redeeming features.

Note I said almost.

I've loved something about all of mine - apart from the Viva.

Ka - fun at legal speeds. Nice handling.
Alfa 156 - gorgeous to look at, surprisingly comfortable, decent handling, good acceleration, 41mpg
SportKa - fabulous gearbox, excellent handling
Multipla - 3 abreast seating is genius
Leon - very solid, handles quite well, just a nice size - big enough and small enough. Has that 'will last as long as you want' vibe - a nice change from the Fiat

The Mondeo mk2 was very competent, but left me a bit cold.

Please don't tell anyone but I love driving my c1. Great little car and so much fun. I will often come the back way home just because I'm in it.

I've been in snotters for a few years now and having finally saved enough for a modestly decent manual petrol, I can't part with my 1998 V70 volvo diesel for the peanuts/scrap that it would get.

Leather, all electrics work, not even that slow, starship mileage with scant history. I even like the look of it now. I know I've gone wrong but it's been so good to me when I really couldn't have dealt with any unforseen costs. Bar fuel, it costs for a years comfortable driving what my Evo used to cost about every other week. Scratch that, 3 years driving.

I have a good friend who always tries to tell me various things out there are "surprisingly good".

They are always, always without fail...

Another vote for the Citoyogeot C107go things, I love the simplicity of them, huge fun to chuck through the lanes!

Most FWD modern Fords are competent handlers, even the Transit Connect I use for work handles well (for a van).

I followed a Hyundai i30 estate downhill on an abnormally steep and abnormally curved slip road this morning. My little van was all over the place, but that Hyundai sliced through it with literally no body-roll or understeer. Took it in it's stride, whilst easily pulling away from me at the same time.

Think you know Hyundai...?

Corsa C 1.2 SXI. Bullet proof car, suzuki chain driven engine fitted into them. Rest of the engines in the range are naff though.

A friend had a Citroen C1 thing, it was pretty impressive.

Stretching the definition of "car"...

Transits. Transits are ace. The modern ones handle well (especially for what they are), have a nice gearbox, and are actually quite fun to drive with the added challenge of keeping the diesel in the blink-and-you'll-miss-it slice of powercurve that gets the van moving at decent speed.

The other great thing is that when you're in a Transit stickered up with van rental logos, everyone else gives you a massively wide berth and they never take chances nearby. It's like driving in a courteous, respectful alternate reality.
