Hi there
I am new to the wonderful world of TVR's and am contemplating buying either a Tamora or T350 which I would intend to own for about a year or so. What is worrying me and stopping me from getting one at the moment is both the ease of which these cars can be sold on and how they reatin their value. I dont want to end up with a lot of money tied up in a car that I cant sell. Any input would be gratefully appreciated .
Thanks

Simple really.
You're not buying a Eurobox, but rather a niche market car. It won't necessarily sell in times of depression.
You'll see depreciatation, just like any vehicle you care to mention.
If you want an investment buy National Savings Bonds. If you want fun on four wheels buy your TVR......

Buying new you'd probably take a £6k - £9k hit, second hand, if you bought privately that might only be £1k - £2k, if from a dealer then maybe £4-£5k.
This is assuming you sell on privately.
Tamoras are very few and far between compared to T350s, and some Tams hang about at dealers for months. T350 would be easier to shift at any given moment IMHO.

It isn't a purchase for a year to take on lightly. If you buy a new Tamora for say £38k you'll be lucky to get £25k for it a year later ... that's what I got from a dealer when mine was exactly 1 year old and I'd failed to sell it privately anywhere. Reading recent posts and talking to people making similar decisions I wasn't alone. Think long and hard if you only intend keeping it for a year ... buy second hand privately and you'll pick one up for around the £25k mark that's less than two years old.

Had no idea they took that much of a hit in the first year. Damn. Was that as a part-ex or a sraight sale? When I was tempted to buy a T350 my local dealer offered me £14k for my Griff, which is what I agreed to sell it for privately a year later. Having said that the same dealer has had a very tasty Halcyon Atlantis '02 Tam with 6k sitting for at least 4-5 months, maybe more.
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of buying a year old car from a dealer for circa 29 - 30 k. I wont be upset if I loose 4 - 5 k in depreciation but what I dont want to be is stuck with it.
Shame really as they are fantastic cars and good value for money really just seems that you can end up stuck with them.

The market for Tamoras is really quirky. There is talk of them being an unappreciated future classic, and I tend to agree with that. If I was in the position to drop £30k on the Tiv of my choice, it would be a Grigio Titano (sp?) or Halcyon Atlantis Tam (the facelift version, for preference)

Are the people doing the 'talking' Trying to sell one perhaps?!? ![]()
B
I really think it will be. The more I (infrequently) see them, the more i want one. A modern day Griff? Not quite, but still very nice on 18's an in the right colour.
