What did TVR do to the Telegraph?
Discussion
PWellsie said:Critcism about cars does have some history. Emil Jellinek didn't stop to provide Daimler with constructive criticism back in 1898, and hence supported the development of cars.
It seems that of late the Daily Telegraph motoring section cannot resist some sort of snide remarks about TVR.
There was that particularly patheic review of the T350, where it seemed to be more about the author's dislike of the marque than reviewing the car, then this week I read:
(Corvette C6 review)
"With its competition in terms of performance (Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari 360 Modena and Porsche 911) costing more than twice as much and only a couple of TVRs available for less - as they should be, given their relative lack of refinement - the Corvette therefore represents an awful lot of car for the money. I'd certainly think twice about paying another 40 grand for right-hand drive."
And on the news of the buying of the company:
"TVR Car Club members, whose lower lips might tremble over their croissants this weekend, have initially reacted with stoic optimism to the takeover of the sports car manufacturer by Russian Nicolai Smolenski for £15 million."
Apart from that the article has some good info on Smolensky's background, and some more remarks about how unreliable TVRs are.
Did the editor's cat get run over by Peter Wheeler or something?
Even TVR does (still) have some room for improvement, so that public criticism should be regarded as motivation, rather than badmouthing

Only had one tvr, hope it wont be my last, and reliability was superb; proves there's no substitute for cubes and minimal engine management complexity.
However, maybe if our Komrads at Blackpool are cosidering the five year plan, one area of improvement worth considering may be in the prep of new cars a la underbody protection.
Not interested in non V8 cars so buying new, if it were within my reach, I would be limited to Cerbera (shucks
). There is no way I would pay that kind of dosh for a car whose chassis is exposed to elements and still requires me to pay for it to be painted / waxoyled properly. Even buying second hand and on private sale ( that's more like it ), you have to allow for a reserve of cash to then ensure car is protected. If there aint a floor pan specialist out there yet, it's a gap in the market I reckon.
