So at the Summer Conference the Football League chairman have voted to return to having 7 subs available on the bench. I think it was introduced in the 09/10 season then at last seasons meeting they reverted back to 5. This was done as a money saving decision made by the chairman of the clubs. Our manager Ian Holloway was not happy when he was told last year. Our chairman in an interview on our official site says that he is against the 7 but would vote the way that Holloway wanted.

I suppose its all to do with player bonuses, get in the match day squad you get a bonus, get on the pitch you get another bonus. So that's 2 extra bonuses that will have to be paid, although I cannot see why a club cannot just name 5 subs as there is nothing in the rules to say you have to fill all 7 places.

Also trying for Sportsmanship over gamesmanship.

Football League clubs have voted unanimously to support proposals aimed at encouraging sportsmanship and curbing gamesmanship in matches.

The proposals, which were put forward by Exeter City Chairman, Edward Chorlton, have three central themes:

1. Gamesmanship has no place in our game. Football League matches should be played within a culture of sportsmanship not gamesmanship.

2. Clubs will undertake to instruct managers, coaches and players accordingly - in particular to discourage actions which bring the game's reputation into disrepute, such as:

a) showing disrespect to match officials; and/or

b) those actions that undermine a sporting culture including diving/simulation, time wasting and feigning injury.

3. In the first year of this initiative, The League will request that referees support this initiative by taking more robust action, particularly in the following situations:

a) obstructing the quick taking of free-kicks

b) stealing ground at throw-ins.

Football League Chairman Greg Clarke said: "As a collective of clubs we have a responsibility to protect the image and long term health of the game of football.

"In supporting these proposals, League clubs have shown a determination to give a lead in this important area.

"We will now use them as a platform from which to engage with those parties that can help us change our game for the better."

It's not usually just a couple of yards though, is it? Certainly it's seen as a big enough issue to be raised and an attempt made to eradicate.
