Who else is taking a long ray round?

So this year we are taking a slightly different route to Le Mans, travelling to the Hook of Holland, up to Amsterdam for a few days, then Brussels, Reims, Loire then Le Mans. At the moment the only thing booked on the mainland is the first 2 nights in Amsterdam and from then on we will just wing it and stay where we want for the week. Any recommendations on good places to stay along our (roughly planned out) route?

Who else is taking a long way down?

Leaving on Wednesday and can't wait

I know toll motorways are efficient, but I find them bloody boring. so I will not be using them, the journey takes a couple of hours longer but its a much nicer drive IMO

We fly to Alicante on the 7th and pick up our car. After four days in Gran Alacant on Monday we drive to Le Mans via Andorra and Limoges arriving Thursday lunchtime. We leave Le Mans on Monday drive down for a couple of nights in San Sebastian then back to Gran Alacant on the Wednesday. Fly back to Blighty on the 24th.

First LM we ever went to - 1981 - we drove down from Amsterdam on Friday and overnighted at Chartres. Mrs rlw blacked out in the ladies at the restaurant - too long in hot car and not enough food and sleep - and I was just plain knackered. Car was a VW Type 3 so slow, noisy and hot. Arrived at the circuit on Saturday am for the hottest ever race day (at the time)and got sunburned just putting the tent up. Spent the rest of the weekend being fking amazed by the whole thing and getting sunstroke. Drunk 2 litres of water each with dinner at the Restaraunt des Vingt-Quatre Heures as it was before it went Chinese and didn't piss until the morning. Not recommended.

Would recommend Chinon as a place to stay but the hotels can get very busy - there is a fab one right next to the chateau with walled gardens and parking - and the food is the best.

stayed in Chinon last year in the loir valley its pretty central and you can get around easy enough.
Blois is worth a visit as is the castle, they do a special event in the evenings which 1 night is in english, it tells the story of Joan of Arc and the battle she fought, stunning, sound and light show in the middle of the castle.
Also look out for the dragons hanging out of the windows in the building across from the front entrance to the castle

I like Chinon nice place had a gite there one year and traveled up for the race cracking time

I'm travelling from norfolk via the nurburgring for a few laps and then onto le mans

As I come from Breda and travelling to le Mans in the morning on thursday... we could meet up and go together. I'm with a friend in a SC430.

I will be doing motorway from Brussels to Le Torquet, the Goldfinger route from Le Torquet to Chatres and then motorway from Chatres to Le Mans on Thursday evening.
