It's near enough £300. Is it worth it? Or to put it another way, do the seals in the RP slave fail, and if so at what age/mileage?

New seals for the standard slave will cost £30, but 3,000 miles between changes is simply not acceptable.

Mark.

Can't say how long they will last but had mine done last September and still going strong. Although probably only done a couple thousand miles.

Peace of mind is priceless though.

I do not understand why you should have to change the standard seals after 3000 miles, provided they are fitted correctly and lubricated with red grease they will last a great deal longer, mine have done 17k miles so far! however i am on my 3rd master cylinder because of seal failure!

My first seals, fitted by David Gerald, lasted 50K. The second set, fitted by ham-fisted me, lasted 2K.

I didn't use red grease when I assembled the slave, I simply lubricated with brake fluid, I even had some that I could have used. Could red grease really have made a difference over the nine months it was in use? Or was the seal damage caused at the point at which it was assembled?

You have to be very carefull that you don`t pinch the seals when fitting them and assembleing the components of the slave,i used plenty of red-race grease when i did mine and that was over 4 years ago and touch wood i havn`t had an issue with the slave since. Also its recommended that all sharp edges of the slave-components are removed especially around the holes.

I did ruin one of the seals by letting it pass over one of the holes, I replaced it and made sure I didn't fully collapse the assembly again.

Now the clutch has gone, I've decided to fit an RP Slave, even though the new seals are only a couple of thousand miles old. I am determined that this will be the last time the gearbox comes off for several years. I blame Joolz for liberating those extra horses!

Had a new master fitted a month ago, now the slave has followed it out the door. I'm having (hopefully by now 'had'!) an RP slave fitted so I can see what all the fuss is about smile

Just to add to the mix the original slave was replaced by previous owner with a raceproved slave at 29,600 in 2008. 10,000 miles later the slave has failed, not the mileage I was expecting so have gone back to the original supplied by racetech. Feels heavier under foot but will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Thanks for the feedback, do you know what part of the slave failed? Seals? Piston? Something else?

I assume that that was the mk1 version of rp slave if back in 08?
This is one part where the original Tvr part really isn't worth considering.

That's reassuring, I didn't realise it had evolved over time.

Not sure what failed but it does look slightly different to the new one.

Is there a shortage of these RP Slaves at the mo? Not been able to get one in time for my trip to Epernay this weekend frown Guess I need to call them direct tomorrow. Stating £277 on their website, anyone managed to get one cheaper anywhere?

Picking mine up from CleverTrevor / RG on Friday. I was told there was going to be a delay, but in fact it was ready the next day.

Unbelievable. Changed all my documents for this weekend to be told the slave has turned up and I can have my car tonight banghead

I wont have time to road test it and as Mrs Fubes is along for the trip I think I'll go in S4 comfort and make sure everything is good for the Spa trip in 3 weeks smile
