Are diesels getting better, or is my V6S slowing?
Discussion
Around Bishop's Stortford bypass at the weekend, following Mondeo TdCi estate - hit crawler lane - he overtakes HGV and pulls in. I floor it and pull level, but he tries to race. I pulled past him, but I had passed 100 before I'd done so, and the difference was much smaller than I would have expected.
I thought I would kick his arse, but all I gave him was a light slap!
Never thought I would say this but
Ford TdCi
God, I need a V8 (this may end up at the end of all future posts

) I started a thread on this the other day, I took an Audi A6 3.0 TDi Quattro for a spin......Seriously quick and fun car to drive, slush box was smooth and quick changing, engine had PLENTY on ooomph, only downside was noise at standstill and heavy front end in low speed corners.....Oh yeah and the brakes were inadequate!!!!

"Austec"...
It was rather a loaded question though, I didn't really think mine was any slower - just mega impressed with diesel development - that TdCi is less than 2litres (think) and really goes some (trouble is, could never live with the tickover sounding like a rusty tool box full of spanners sitting on an old washing machine on full spin

just ask KentishS2 - his Audi diesel is putting out a fair amount of bhp and, perhaps more importantly, big torque. Some of the modern diesels can definately cause some red faces.
I've not had it on a RR but it is claimed to have at least an extra 30 bhp on top of the original 110. The tuning box I fitted also has a manual adjustment so mine has been tweeked up more to the limit of it starting to appear to smoke a little but only when booted. The box changes the injector timing (duration of opening) and the air/fuel mixture.
The difference was amazing, it now pulls right up to maximum revs whereas it used to peak at a much lower rpm previously and the torque is superb. I've done a 0-60 test and it got there in sub 9 seconds which isn't fast compared to the S but not bad at all for an oil burner with an auto box.
Oh yes, it doesn't noticeably use more fuel either!

Its the torque of the TDis which does it.
My lowly Golf only has 90BHP but 202 lbft torque!
Its superb for overtaking and very good fun annoying the hot hatch/rep brigade. I have to make sure they get to see the TDi badge. I might even have to fit an "only 90BHP" one just to further rub it in!
Wonder when the first diesel TVR will come about? They already got the sound in the Speed6 so may as well go the whole hog

Mrs S has a year old TDi130 Golf and, yes, it goes like stink. Max torque outstrips many big engined petrol cars and its this that makes the car so driveable whether its overtaking on the motorway or blatting around the lanes.
First gear is a bit short legged and coupled with a lowish redline its not the quickest off the mark but hit 2nd, 3rd, 4th and it just pulls.
A proper long legged 6th gear (which allows for the high torque) makes it embarrassingly economical also - Top car.

me too!
had the same moment of disbeleif behind a Focus TDCi the other week - had trouble staying with him thru the bendies - stuffed him on the first available bit of straight (which just happened to be on the private estate road we happened upon, just by accident of course). So impressed was I that I now own one, Focus TDCi that is - great car
