No soul? That's got buckets.
It was the engine sound and the looks that did it for me..Mine had a very special all steel SP6 4.0S..and once you've taken an engine like that to 7,000 rpm..nothing else can quite live upto that sound and feeling..
The 2.3 Cosworth Duratec certainly generates the power..but it's a really 'angry' sounding engine..where as the SP6 felt so smooth and seemed happy to rev and had plenty of grunt all the way through the rev range..You have to ramp the Cosworth and keep it in it's sweet spot..which is perfect for a track..but it feels like a tool rather than a complete car..
BTW not regretting the move because on the road the TVR would have hurt me in the end..to even touch it's limits and extend the engine..you need to be going very very quick.
I used to race and rally cars, so I was starting to get frustrated about not being able exploit the cars full ability..which was going to end in tears..or worse for me or somebody else on the road..so I'm taking it all to the track and going to have a lot of fun..and keep my licence!!
Glad to see you managed to sell your car? I noticed you dropped the price from when we viewed the car and wonder how far off our offer was??
Great track toy you have there and should be lots of fun bar a bit less of an occasion as you say!
Have several friends racing Caterhams at the moment and have been lucky enough to steal a few real quick passenger rides
scared the living s
t out of me to be honest but a hell of allot of bang for your buck.
I'm looking at doing some racing myself once the back is better and these cars offer so much for your money [tyres, fuel etc]
Maybe its just the open top thing or the closeness to the road but if i was to end up heading towards the tyres i know which cabin i would prefer to be in
All the best and hope to bump into you on circuit somewhere, you should bring it to Cadwell for the TVR Club day!

I managed to get my asking price in the end....and had lots of interest once I dropped the price below the 'magic' £25,000 threshold...not much before..lots afterwords...Great track toy you have there and should be lots of fun bar a bit less of an occasion as you say!

Good news for the rest of you, I guess..
I'll keep an eye out for you out on the circuits...any recommendation such as good / bad track days companies would always be welcomed..
I thought I would be chastised on this thread for doing the unthinkable...and leaving the TVR family..but there seems to be a lot of goodwill for the Caterhams..especially the ones with a silly amount of power..
I went from three TVRs (pre-cat Griff, and two new Tuscans) to a 540bhp/tonne Caterham Superlight (slimline) - if your primary interest is trackdays then you won't regret it, a well set up Caterham will destroy a roadcar based TVR.
Having said that I sold the Caterham last year and back to a Griff after 10 years absence
for a first trackday I'd recommend Bedford Autodrome.

540bhp/tonne - that will be the R500 then..Having said that I sold the Caterham last year and back to a Griff after 10 years absence

I am going to use this solely as a Trackday car..just bought the trailer today..My thinking is that it can be sold on as a roadcar when I have finished with it...
The CSR260's are pretty rare as they are very pricey new..this one only has 4,000 miles on it, so its' just run in and spotless..but should be pretty easy to sell on.
There is NO crash protection on these things..the chassis is just a means for keeping the mechanical bits apart..the thought of getting hit by anything on the road is pretty terrifying..
The TVR chassis looks very over engineered in comparison..

Actually I built mine before Caterham had even introduced the Duratec (in 2004) and used a 2.3l RaceCo developed Duratec with 280bhp in an R400 chassis, full cage, carbon everything, stripped out to 515kgs but still road legal (see my profile for a pic). No road car can touch a Caterham of that spec on track and on the road youd be insane to try and use that performance.I am going to use this solely as a Trackday car..just bought the trailer today..My thinking is that it can be sold on as a roadcar when I have finished with it...

I would highly recommend having a cage fitted, it'll make you much braver on track knowing you have additional protection

Also ditch the screen and doors and run with an aero screen, improved top speed and sensory overload thrown in. Ah now I'm wishing Id kept it!
