What's better, S1 Elise or VX220?
Discussion
If its a toy probably the S1 Elise. If you are planning any daily drive the vx220 would be better.
Can of worms TBH.
Wait for the HGF, badge snobbery, uncomfortable, leaking roofs, purity of drive debate to commence... Best place to ask is on SELOC!
In reality YOU need to make the decision by driving and maybe speaking face to face with some owners to make your mind up.

Purely a toy, current toy is a carpet less, screen less, Westfield. The VXlise will obviously be slightly slower than it, but the Westfield is getting to the point where you can't really use it on the road, certainly not to it's full potential. Plus I have had it for something 15 years, and had previously thought I'd never sell it, but then I realised that it will have to go one day (I won't be able to drive it when I'm 80) so when does that point come and is the time right to try something different?
Like I said idle musing's at the minute, but if I do change it will be to an S1 Elise or a VX220, purely because I just want one, the question is, which is best.
Stuff like head gaskets does not bother me, as the Westfield started with a x/flow on carbs, and now has a Zetec on TB's, if an Elise pops a gasket it just end up with a Scholar 1.9 conversion, which I believe eliminates the liner movements which leads to gasket failure.

Get a vx then put it on a diet or SC the NA or get the turbo and tune. Pretty much everything has been done to these cars.
People that dont know about cars love the VX. People who do but havnt owned either say 'id rather have the elise' badge snobs!
People who have tracked their elises with VX's at the same circuit know that the vx is a good weapon when set up right.
If you ask on SELOC though your going to get the 'buy an Elise because vx220's are crap' response. Ask on vx220.org.uk and you'll get a list of pros and cons

I had a VX after a 911 and it was brilliant. Fabulous car to drive and awesome across country.
I felt it represented fantastic value for money.
Kept it for 2.5 years and never felt I wish I'd bought an Elise, which are also great.
Got a Caterham now amongst other things but I doubt you'd be unhappy in a VX unless a badge is important to you.
