My new RR 4.2 S/C

nice clean looking car
not very keen on the nudge bar/light guards as spoils the cars lines?
unfortunately removing these type of items tends to leave 'holes' that need filling/painting
tbh its the first actual photo i've seen of a FFRR with the front bar!
but its your car and if your happy thats all that matters
ps - did see the comments on FFRR - lol!

a suggestion - get the black door handle covers (powerful on fleabay)
and maybe 'half' wing mirror covers? - the 'full' type being a bit too 'full'?
will make a big difference
and of course the 20210 era full soft touch Nappa leather steering wheel - simply superb
see where i'm going? - you cannot stop spending money on 'bits' - lol!

I'm not fussed either way about the plastic bits, really. If it'd not had them, I wouldn't have bought them - but equally, now there's on I can't be bothered with all the faffing that taking them off would inevitably entail. It's a pain in the posterior to have to fill holes and repaint and all the rest of it, and it'll never be pristine. So unless the plastic bits are damaged, they're staying. At least, until I get bored with them.

To me, the looks are secondary to the engine/reliability/performance anyway. I'd still have bought this car even if it'd been sprayed pink. Well, okay - I'd have thought twice and then bought it.

Lush...... More details please
Okay... 55-plate MY2006, 44k miles, refurbed wheels and new tyres all round. I can't think of much else at the moment. It's got all the RR bells and whistles and they all work, which is nice! I haven't found any problems as such yet, so I can't tell you what it's going to have done to it.

I've got more photos though, if you want them.

I think the lights are going to be the first "bit" I do - someone on FFRR has LEDs all round at the front and they look great! (Not sure what oncoming traffic would think, but hey. and maybe 'half' wing mirror covers? - the 'full' type being a bit too 'full'?

) Other than that - I'm avoiding all the posts about "bits" so far, otherwise I'll end up spending half my life on the Bay of Fleas and I'll turn into one of those people that spends all their time spannering and never driving.
That nappa steering wheel though...

44k... Blimey, barely run-in!!
Nice cars & they go like stink.

not wanting to upset supercharged owners but the difference between an SC and 4.4V8 is minimal - using real road test figuresNice cars & they go like stink.

M
anyway they are not the sort of cars to be driven as drag racers?
and when you come to corners?
OK the 2007+ cars had far stiffer anti roll bars - but you still cannot/should not throw them into corners?
my departed GC 4.7 V8 with IAS suspension and a few other mods would beat any RR on the road - straight line and especially corners/handling
last 'tested' at about 5.2 secs 0 -60mph!! (still far slower than the SRT)
and the car was bought by a forum member who would verify those figures

I don't mind - I didn't buy the car for its performance as such. I didn't want a car with glacial acceleration, because that's not the way I drive. But I've done the "fast car" thing - have a look at the cars I've owned
- and I've decided that I also quite like my driving licence and I'd like to keep it.
So while any car I buy has to be fairly quick, it doesn't have to be stupendously fast and I don't want to throw it into corners - too many muppets on the road these days in any case. (Yes, woman doing 20 in a 60 yesterday - I mean you!)
As it happens, I'd have bought a 4.4 if the right one had come along - but the right car came along very quickly and I'm happy with it.
As it happens, the company my brother works for had taken a 4.4 in part-exchange the day I first heard about the 4.2 that I bought, and the company was willing to let me have it for a reduced price. I was all ready to go up and try it out - except it was on the forecourt on my brother's day off, and somebody sold it! The one that got away, hey.
Not to worry. I'm happy with the car I've bought, it has a few minor things that I'd like to sort out but nothing terribly expensive or messy. So I'll keep this one a while until the lure of a 5.0 becomes too much.

Latest 4.4 TDV8 versus the 4.2 S/C is a close thing apparently (not checked)... The latest S/C is faster and has far more oomph up top...
Petrol 4.4 versus Petrol 4.2 SC the SC is far better and that was regularly tested when I had my 4.2 SC
What none of the above accurately conveys is the amazing value for money, and utterly awesome sound of a 4.2 S/C as you pilot the wheeled yacht up your favourite, very straight, piece of tarmac
As much as I like the idea of the SRT, comparing it to a FFRR S/C is to miss the point. One is a great value, good fun, brute created for stetson wearers. The other is, quite simply, a Range Rover - no other superlative needed.

With hindsight, I ought to at least have tried a couple of other makes and models. I did consider it. But I liked the FFRR so much when I tried it that the deal was pretty much done. You know how it is - you go in with an open mind but you still just know when you've found the right car.
So that was that, really.
I do like the V8 burble, but my car seems to be very polite and genteel. At least compared to my Roadster, which is the very epitome of loud and uncouth.
I really think the Rangey might benefit from a decent sports exhaust... But that's to be considered for the future, the first purchase will have to involve some smaller wheels and a set of winter tyres, I think. I don't much fancy driving round on 20", nicely refurbed rims in the ice!

Bear in mind that your car is fitted with the Brembo brakes. 19" rims are a tight fit and if it is anything like the RRS, there are only a handful of very specific rims that will fit.Once you have some suitable rims, a narrower set of winter tyres should do the trick nicely for winter. Just watch out for that throttle though...
