When does the first scheduled coolant change take place? The car in question is 4 years old this month and has done 50500 miles but there is no place in the service book for them to stamp the coolant. Not got a the paperwork here but curious as to whether it's been done? It was last in to the dealer just 3k miles ago for another service so surely it would have been done by now?!

Just wondering why there is no place for it in the service book like there is in the book for my E38???

Thanks chaps.

Not 1005 but I think it's every 2 years.

Does it not show when the next change is due on the iDrive under Services

Its another 'lifetime fluid' and is not recommended to be changed at all which is of course a nonsense.

I changed my at 5 years old in my E61.

You're kidding? That's absurd! I can't believe the coolant will still be fine in 20 years time. Will Make sure it gets changed, though not sure if the dealer would do it?? Know an indy would but what about the stealer?

The theory is that a component in the cooling system will need changing before the coolant stops being effective.

IIRC coolant concentration is measure during inspections, so you will be advised when a change is needed.

BMW stopped changing coolant as a regular service item back in 2005. At regular intervals the coolant is tested for lubricity and concentration. I agree with this approach unlike the lifetime oil bullsh*t

It's supposed to be every 4 years, the car is in the dealer today for an MOT as well as a coolant change. Also getting a new wheel arch liner and some anti aqua-plane thing too as it has broken some how on the nsf side.

Yes E46 is four years. I give them DI water to mix with the coolant too rather than tap water. Overkill? Don't care, this is a keeper! smile
