Hi,

I'm wanting to completely black out the rear "windows" on my van. They are the glass panels stuck over the original metal panels so once painted and stuck on they are impossible to remove / re paint.

I have to paint the glass rather than the metal panels as the OEM tint on the glass is different.

I tried some craft glass paint but it doesn't cover very well and seems easily scratched / removed.

I've seen people use normal car paint but I've also seen it cracking / flaking.

Would a black primer (is that even available ?) be a sensible idea ?

Or would I be better to use the glass primer they sell with windscreen kits ?

I could use a limo tint film but that seems a bit pointless with a metal panel behind.

Thanks

Struggling to understand why you'd want to put glass onto metal????

I want it to look like a Caravelle rather than a van.

It already has some glazed (& tinted) side panels but some camp sites don't let vans on and their definition of MPV rather than van is glazed rear windows and I don't want to reduce my security - hence sticking black glass over the metal.

Just get someone to stick some black vinyl to the back of the glass, or are they glued on already confused

I could if the two rear bits of glass didn't have differing OEM tint in them.

BINGO.

Easy solution.

Get some black laminate and stick it on. Sorted.

I've never tried to paint glass but I suppose it needs a key like any other surface that's to be painted. I'd try taking the smoothness away with maybe wirewool or a mediumish grit sandpaper.

http://www.caravanaccessories.co.uk/206-black-glas... we used to use this at work when we were fitting the windscreens and side windows on bus's. Brilliant stuff, dries very quick though and is usually best applied with a rag.
