Cayenne S - Yes or No
Discussion
Been driving my 993 daily for the past 18 months but I need something with 4 proper seats, a decent boot and the ability to tow a car and trailer.
Initially been looking at (dare I say it) BMW X5 diesels but they dont excite me and when I see how much you can pick up decent 4.5s Cayennes surely the Porsche is by far the better bet?
Used to 20mpg and high running costs but wondered if any owners on here had any advice?
Thanks a lot

I adore mine... as much as my 993 strange as that may seem. It's just a great companion and incredible transport that covers all bases. When you start throwing it around it is also genuinely sporty and fun, unlike every other suv ive tried.
Think 15mpg though. If i dont go near motorways then i regularly get 250 miles from a fill of 90 litres.

Cayenne S one of the most 'complete' & competent cars I have owned - beautifully engineered and has genuine performance too - though don't expect the shove in your back performance you get from a 911 - it is a more linear 340 bhp V8 grunt via 4wd on 'soft' suspension by comparison. Downsides are that they are properly thirsty - the 3.2 appears not to offer any significant fuel economy saving over the V8 and performance wise the 3.2 outright lacks excitement so if you're going for it do recommend the bulletproof V8 and there's a nice V8 snarl when its on song..turbo obviously faster still but 'real world' simply not practical running one..good luck..!
I tried a cayenne S for a year. Loved the car but its not that spacious inside and fuel costs were a no no. I went to an E70 X5 - in M sport guise its a great car, much more practical, optional 7 seats, 25mpg in town, and handles just as well as the cayenne. I'd be interested to know how a gen 2 Cayenne D compares - i prefer the look of the original and gen 2 cayenne, new one looks a bit japanese to me.....X5 and a 911 are the ideal combination imho. Drive each and decide.
