I find the 'its time to change my wifes car, i want to get her something practical and economical, etc, etc,' a bit odd.

Are there really women out there who cant form an opinion for themselves?

The existance of the threads proves that there are at least partners who believe this to be so.

Exactly. Sometimes a partner will say "I know nothing about cars" and look to their other half for advice. There are so many cars out there now that its difficult to know about them all, so they come on here for suggestions that they may not otherwise have thought of.

Asking for advice though is different than being 'told' what you're going to drive though.

Having said that, maybe its just a male thing on forums and the reality is the blokes been told 'get me a fking car and you'd better get me a good one'.

This!! My OH literally has no idea about cars, her preference is normally based on size and colour (fnar fnar!).

A lot of ladies know nothing about cars as they have no interest, it's human nature.

It's not just cars for the wife, I think we now have a full generation of society who are unable to make a decision on anything without asking a forum for their opinion.

Am I right? :-)

My usual take on this is as follows: she can either
  • choose a car herself, in which case I make a point of taking nothing to do with it, or
  • she can take a car we agree on, in which case I'll help with it if it breaks down, etc.
Seems to have worked so far, once each way.

In our house I have the veto on cars, she has the veto on soft furnishings. Seems to work.

By and large, I choose Mrs B's cars for her. She indicates general guidelines like it must an auto, can "carry stuff" and not be a "silly" colour and I do the rest. She mainly does "popping around town" interspersed with runs "darn sarf" to visit relatives and visits to our sons in Worcester and Wales. She also buys stuff like furniture quite a bit. Does about 6k miles a year. Three years ago, her previous car became unreliable so I went out and got her a dark blue Saab 9-5 auto estate - its been a monster hit ever since - she didn't even drive it before I got it...

I asked my girlfriend what car she would like when she passed her test. She giggled and said "a pink one".

Says all you need to know !

Other forums? Balderdash and piffle. Next there'll be talk of "another place".
