aide, is the 4.2 different from 4.5, these photos dont resemble mine at all, my filter is mounted on the chassis, could someone describe this in words please
Hi Steviescon, I really don't know tbh but.... the chap scotty_d in this post has a 4.2 and the chap Julian64 in this post has a 4.5 and they're both indicating that the spring is located in the same area.. I'm guessing that they're in the same place. Even though your oil filter is mounted elsewhere, the location of the spring is on the opposite side. But having an oil filter mounted differently than standard could suggest that an oil stat or oil pressure sensor has been retro fitted? I have a spare spring, if you do manage to get yours out let me know and I could measure the length of a new one for you to use as a comparison? New spring can be got here.ETA: could also ask to have this thread moved to the cerbera forum?

finally got round to fitting this spring today but made no difference, oil light on & no oil pressure, think im snookered.
when fitting spring & nut i never felt any resistance on tightening, should i have!
No it just fits in and you nip the nut up so that seem normal.when fitting spring & nut i never felt any resistance on tightening, should i have!
Did the oil pressure drop off while driving or has it been off the road for a while? I know if the engine has been drained of oil for some time the oil drains down past the pump and it needs to be pressurised back up again otherwise you will never get pressure in the system as the oil won't get to the pump.
maybe should have said earlier, that this car been off the road garaged for 4years, only reason was off road was simply didnt have time to use, now thinking back cant remember oil pressure reading, mrs was driving it, i know for fact that thers not a chance she would have looked at it, she would only look in the mirror.
never thought of turning steering as when the light would not go out i switched off immediately, packing with washers, is this advisable albeit i think damage has been done?

No, I when cranking gave someone check that the PAS pump is turning. Or at least the shaft to it. If not then the compound gear keyway has probably sheared.
I would suggest not packing the relief spring with washers unless you are sure everything else is ok.
Are you cranking it or actually running it and getting no oil pressure?
