I'm using Halfords 15w40 at the moment but in my opinion it's too thin at the hot end of the scale and I'm losing pressure when the engine gets hot in traffic.
In something as agricultural as the old Rover V8 I'd rather use something like a 20w50 or even 10w60 as has already been mentioned...

I use and reccomend the witham oil 15/50 semi synthetic race oil very very good holds up well at extreme temperatures the reason for it being semi as opposed to fully synthetic is they are able to introduce longer poymers and other aditives which apparently cannot go into fully synthetic.

absolutely.
ALL modern off the shelf have reduced zinc for US emmission legislation.
You need a Millers CSS or COR to preserve your cam and big ends.
Other oils are available and are usually listed as RACE, MOTORSPORT or COMPETITION oils (as Millers is).
You can buy a ZDDP addition for off the shelf oils but why bother?
Useful if stuck away from home though, but a small top up while away wont be a problem to the right oil in the sump.
Just preparing a service pack atm...
