Got this from a guy on a local website, he'd bought it from a friend after his father died. Picked it up for £550 with no tax but 10 months MOT.
To be honest it's not bad for the age, bit of crust round all 4 wheel arches and some corrosion setting in on the sills. I've ordered a bilt hamber electron patch repair kit though to stop them getting any worse. I doubt I'll still have it past the next MOT but there's no point in letting them rot. Hopefully I won't be left with any nasty holes after applying the deox gel!
Found some receipts in the glovebox too, £1.5k for big service, timing belt change, 4 tyres etc, all within the last 5k miles (it's done 120k)
I thought an ABS sensor was goosed but everything works perfect after cleaning it up.
Total spend so far:
car £550
6 months tax, approx £120
bilthamber kit £30

I was under the car the other day and noticed the exhaust was mostly stainless. Not sure what brand it is but definitely aftermarket!Started the bilt hamber kit today, the sills have been cleaned up and are currently bathing in deox-gel covered in cling film. Once that's done I'll get the high build primer on then some stone chip protector. They were letting down the look of the car as tbh it is actually quite tidy bar the bubbling on arches.
Had been getting a problem this week where the car was idling a bit jump and almost cutting out. A bit of online research pointed at a filthy throttle body. I'm glad I checked this because it was absolutely minging. The engine breather hoses were all clogged up and minging too. I took all of them off and attempted to clean them using carb cleaner (used a whole can!). Started up the car and the idle sounds far better. Hopefully cleaning the breather pipework will have remedied a minor oil leak I've been getting.
Other than these things the only stuff I need to fix is (at a guess) a front wheel bearing and a code has popped up for a lambda probe. Tbh it's running far better than I imagined a £550 car ever would!

B5s are fantastic value now. I picked up my saloon for £800, and it's even painted a colour I've never seen on another one! It's still fairly safe to go for the cheap ones as they're pretty bombproof really.
