Hi all

Brother in law has just bought a brand new AVR400 but when he plugs his PS3 in to watch a bluray, the sound iscrackly. Any idea why? We've swapped HDMI leads around with no joy.

His Sky HD works fine.

Thanks

Is the PS3 giving out the correct sample rate of audio?

Thanks mate, I don't know if I'm honest. Do you know what the correct rate is and how I can check?

When you are in the settings it gives you a number of options to output, might be worth trying them, not sure why it would crackle though.

Make sure you have the right setting on the input of the amp as well.

The PS3 has audio volume control on the little pop up menu. I think it works basically like a gain control, adjustable from around -3 to +3 (or something such like). Make sure it is set to "0" and try again.

I'd also suggest making sure the PS3 is setup right. while in standbye press and hold the power button on the console to turn it on. this will reset the vid and audio settings and take it from there.
What have you tried playing on the PS3, games, BD etc and what is effected with this issue?

putting that aside, what do you think of the 400? Particularly for music? I Have an old AVR200 that I love for the sound quality.

I've an old AVR100, no issue here. I did however go through the AVR100 manual when I first got the PS3, and make sure the sound was being output in the various formats it could handle, disabling the other options.

I didn't notice any issue beforehand, I just happened to have the manual to hand at the time so figured I'd be thorough.

Thanks guys, it's my brother in laws so I'll point him in this direction!

Jimbob - in answer to your question, I know he loves the Arcam. He had a Marantz 1602 previously which was lovely in itself but the Arcam is in a different league. Runs very hot though.

I have a Yamaha 2067 myself so it'll be interesting to compare them (despite the price difference) as I think the Yammy is absolutely superb. Far better than I thought it'd be even though I had high hopes after being so pleased with my previous Yammy, a 750SE.

I'll get a bit more feedback from him when I can!

Thanks again.
