I have a "buyer" wanting to pay full whack for my car unseen, by bank transfer, as he is "not in the area at the moment"

You know, I thought this was a certain scam. But the more I look into it, the more I see that this sort of thing usually involves overpaying you and asking you to pay some back, etc etc.

If he sends me the correct amount by a bank transfer, and it clears and appears in my account, what can he do to reverse it? How does this sort of thing go wrong?

If I can get a cheque from a UK bank, and wait until it clears, is this any safer?

Thanks in advance,
Sam

I've sold a couple of my cars this way, sounds crazy I know especially with not viewing the car but it happens.

The 1st car I delivered to the new owner & got the train home? no problems, the 2nd of my cars was advertised on PH guy came to view but didn't drive it, agreed the sale paid the money by internet transfer then had the car collected by transporter lorry so still hadn't driven it & still no probs for me.

I'd say it was the choosen method of paymentlaugh

Thanks for your reply!

It set alarm bells ringing for me as this guy appears to be abroad and it's only a £1000 car, but I'm struggling to see how I could run into problems.

If it's not a UK bank account that I receive the money from, does that cause issues for me?

done this from both sides no problem, just make sure is cleared before you let your car leave. it's a shame we need to be so paranoid.
