Need a decent 4x4 tow vehicle

Must be/have:

Diesel
Budget £25k
Be able to have decent off road capabilities
Seat 5
10k miles a year

Looked at a few Disco 3s - any other alternative suggestions?

Thanks

I'd go for the Discovery first off but if you are happy to accept a less wonderful interior then the Jeep Grand Cherokee (2006 onwards) is also a good choice for ability offload. Had one for a few months whilst in the USA and was much more impressed with it than the scathing UK motoring press would have you believe.

Of course if you wish an indestructible vehicle then it would be hard to overlook e Toyota Landcruiser

I have owned Landcruisers before and love them - indestructible and totally unflustered when towing the horsebox - didn't seem to affect performance one jot whether it was attached or not smile

The UK motoring press believes the Ford Focus is the most magnificent car and aside from that anything which isn't German is rubbish.

Another vote for a diesel Disco, though your budget is also well into older current model Range Rover territory - a very comfortable way to eat up the miles whilst towing and it weighs a good deal less than the HMS Disco too

+1

Comfy, capable and the engine is a Mercedes lump.

Discovery 3, HSE spec, automatic.

Cover's all you're requirements with ease, be aware they do mid 20s for fuel, they like maintenance so get a good dealer/indy to look after it properly and you will get a superb 4x4.

Sure they look good but I can't really see him thanking you whilst he's waiting for the recovery truck...again wink

If the OP did go down that route, make sure its got a pucka LR warranty as back up. At least you'll get a decent hire car everytime its in the garage.

With that budget my money would be on something Japanese....Shogun, Pathfinder, etc

You can get a nice TDV8 Range Rover for that money, or a late high spec Discovery 3.

The best 4x4 would probably be a Range Rover or Discovery......but I'll chip in with a Mercedes ML420cdi. 306bhp on tap so it has a decent turn of speed, and it's pretty decent off-road (and in snow) on 19" M&S rubber.

Depends on what your priorities are. For style... Range Rover.
If you will settle for a more 'Japanese' feel of the interior, for utter dependability.. Land Cruiser.

Lots of ability and bang for your bucks... Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD

What do you need tow with it would be my first question.

25k buys you a brand Mazda CX-5 2.2 AWD Diesel auto with a 2000kg tow limit & 50+ mpg if your gentle.
