When I found the plast door strut end (door end) had snapped passenger side, I though maybe I had inadvertantly stressed it somehow.. The factory kindly replaced it for me.

Today I found the other side with the exact same problem! Now I do know this has not been stressed - just normal operation.
The factory suggest that steel ones are not a good idea, but I have no wish to have them failing so often. On examination of the broken part, both had snapped at the 'neck' which seems extremely thin - a millimetre or less of plastic, which to me seems rather flimsy.

What have others done?

My "ends" are 12 years old, but I do open the doors carefully.

Sounds like I have been very unlucky then.

Has there been a change to the design?

As I said earlier, I noticed that the 'neck' where the end snapped o0ff seems to be very, very thin!

The quickest way to break the ends is to hit the door forward when its open. Ive done it once. The factory expolained a couple of years ago that if you didn't break the sacrifical plastice piece think about what would break next probably the upper hinge. That would be a hell of a mess. The plastic peieces are availble from Mc Master Carr for about a $1.25 each buy several but in your spares drawer don't knock the door forward and you'll never use them. Lee
