BMW 320i, rear tyres are at 6mm or so on the outside - through to the cords on the inside!

Seems that if alignment is per factory spec, the uneven wear is a known issue with the run flat tyres fitted.

Some people suggest changing from run flats to non run flats to avoid the issue.

A tyre supplier just told me that they won't do it as I would have to tell my insurer as it is a 'modification'.

What is the world coming to? How can the correctly sized tyre that is non-run flat be a 'modification'?

Go elsewhere - even if it is a "modification", what's it got to do with with a tyre supplier?

I can't see why you would. My car came out of the factory on Michelins, I can put LingLongs on if I like and my insurers need not know, why would it matter if you put different rubber on that happened to not be a run flat

Exactly.

Tyre fitter suffering from 'Health& Safety'-itis.

Cost them a sale.

I will get etryes to fit 4 x Falken/Hankook/other non run flats for the same price as 2 Contintental run flats. The car will drive better, be more comfortable and not be as twitchy I expect.

Don't forget a can of gunk and an inflater for the spare wheel well.

I'd have the alignment checked properly. My e91 wore its last set of rears out to the cords.

Been fine since it was properly aligned.

Ditch the run flats in favour of some Falkens. Buy a pump & mousse and chuck them in the boot.
