How fragile are CCDs?

On recent visit to the dealer I was advised to be very careful when removing the wheels from my V12V as catching the discs could result in micro fractures... Which could lead to catastrophic failure.
Anyone know anything about this?

Yes, be very careful when removing/installing the wheels so as to not whack the disc, which could at best be chipped and at worst...

Corvettes come with a set of fitted foam protector pads that are installed by the shop prior to any wheel servicing.

That's a good idea. I'm sure I can make something similar myself.
