Hey all

So I finally decided on a gtr as the new motor, but on trying for insurance it seems they're almost impossible to insure out here (I'm in Australia at the moment). So I'm looking for an alternative.. Any suggestions? Only thing I could think of so far is a 370z convertible, but I can't help feel it won't excite. Must be pretty new, ignore the price differences, what would you go for as an alternative?

Personally, and i'll probably get shot for this but i'd go for an Audi TTRS.

Lovely cars imo, plenty of power and tuneable if you want more, look the business and meant to be a good drive.

There is not much alternative. But maybe a Porsche 911 turbo or a r33/4 gtr/supra tuned up.

:-(

There must be some Maserati's lurking about the place at the OPs price range.

Oz is about the only place you can run a Maserati realistically.

Annoyingly maseratis are well out of range, the Gtr is 120 k or so, but the Massas fetch up to 300k!

Not sure a Porsche in a good flavor will be in budget, did find a few 08 m3s near price that said.. I'd love a tuned supra but have had a few so want something a little different!

There's a few 34 Gtr nur specs in budget, not a clue what to expect from them. Oz is great for fuel but cars are taxed to buggery lol
Cheers smile

Id go for an R33 or R34 as said.
As you will know, going for a Luxury brand, carries a premium tax.

R34 nur could get to over 600bhp would be a proper monster ;-) and tbh I prefer them to gtr (dons flame suit!)

there is a 2008 VXR8 on autotrader for £14800

its not blown but 400+ bhp and sub 5 to 60 and 155 is not slow

dealer seems to want shot of it so it may fall in to your bracket

I had a vantage until recently in the uk. Ur no chance here they're a good couPle hundred thou!

Just got a reasonable insurance quote in albeit with a 10k excess  so the gtr may be back on the cards. How do the caymen stack up? Some nice examples doing the rounds

vxr8 bathhust s? 560bhp, or the cheaper Monaro VXR 500?

  • edit*
im unsure if your post means your planning to buy these cars in oz or not, if so i dont think they do a factory supercharged monaro over there.

For people offering Autotrader vehicles or Astons?? rick88 is obviously in Australia where car prices are 2 or 3x higher...

OP - There are not many options that are comparable to a GTR for less than 150k. If I was spending that, perhaps an M3/C63/RS4? Or the TTRS that an earlier poster suggested? or even an EVO X MR (from memory about 60k). Not sure why a 370Z Conv would be comparable, but they are certainly interesting looking...

Sorry guys for the confusion, yes in dollars as I'm currently in aus, the astone was in the uk but I'd have to holdout a year to get it and I'm just not home enough for it to be worthwhile! Yeah I suppose a 70 isn't really comparable, but there is a certain something about them. A 2009 m3 is a similar price now you mention it, haven't been lucky enough to take one for a spin, can imagine the v8 makes it a different beast from the e46.. Haven't tried an MR either, but can imagine it feeling a little for want of a better word, flat?

Also, apologies for the terrible spelling guys, I have to use a phone for he Internet here! Re the Evo tw, not seen any here but will have a look!

Re the bathurst, can imagine one of the clubsports has a similar spec here but theyre just so damned popular here, would be nice to be a bit different!

Are you sure you have had a thorough look for a decent insurance quote? I have just bought a GT-R in the uk and my existing insurer, who were pretty good with most other things wanted £6k+ to insure a GT-R!! and i had worse quotes than that.
After asking on a few forums and a bit of ringing around I found a well recommended company who provide great cover for a more realistic £720.

Corvette Z06 might be worth a look? No idea how much these cost in Australia though.
