Anyone else had a gearbox problem like this before?
Discussion
Hi all
Yesterday i was out for a drive. Sat at a set of lights and went for a reasonably quick getaway. Got a little wheel hop and then an almighty bang and lost all drive.
upon a brief inspection it looks like the gearbox has cracked/broken near the rear engine mount and deposited its contents everywhere.. I wont be able to have a proper look until the engine is out
The car will still go into gear, clutch feels fine, but there is no drive whatsoever.
I thought the rear mount was supposed to absorb any force, but it appears the gearbox has taken the impact. Could the rear mount be past it?
If anyone has a 5 speed box for sale, let me know!

Hmm, sounds likely and would explain the complete lack of drive.
i wonder if it was the diff or the engine mount that caused the problem. Seems like the rear mount has seen better days.
I was just about to put the car up for sale, so I'll just be replacing like for like I think.
I will get some pictures of the box when it's out of the car.

Can and engine mount cause a problem like this?...recently i have been feeling a bit more engine vibration than normal and every now and then it can feel a bit of judder on acceleration on when cornering hard on track when suspension is on its hardest setting...somebody told me it could be tyre hopping on the limits of grip ..but for me that did not quite fit..its hardly noticeable to be honest but i prefer to catch things early and this is something i was going to start investigating..i wonder if it was the diff or the engine mount that caused the problem.
