Seeing this ad made me wonder if there are any turbocharged v8 wedges out there?

Yes, sorry, amended my op - meant v8 wedge. There must be a reason why the factory went down the SX route rather than turbo - maybe simpler engineering?

Hi mate...Perhaps its the plumbing that was a nightmare??..Theres not a lot of room for a turbo even a front mounted one!!..Perhaps there are modern solutions now..Ive heard about "Tiny Turbos" but dont know much about them..But apparently there are two and they were made for tight spaces..What about a remote turbo that fits under the car??..I suppose the supercharger route is more affordable and easier to fit...Interesting to see though...Ziga

PS: I think our friend from B.P could answer a few questions on this subject!!

Supercharger is easier to add on and less service parts. Also with a turbo you get that annoying turbo lag at low rpms and TVR probably opted to choose a supercharger because of that.

TVR never went down the supercharger route. The SX cars were made by a dealer, Dave Haughin in partnership with Don Priddle. The factory went with the 390SE and there was much rivalry between the 2 but thats another story

You don't get lag with a properly matched turbo. We're dealing with v8 engines of reasonable compression not piddly 4 pots with no exhaust flow (just joking). You can be on boost at 2k rpm's and gripping the steering wheel for the other 4k rpm's smile

There's also the alternate supercharger types - (basically a turbocharger like setup but driven from crankshaft) they are very popular here in the antipodes. (CAPA is the company name I think)

These are supposed to be simpler to fit, don't need intercoolers and don't suffer turbo lag when matched. Anyone used these ? Are they available in Europe ??

There is barely enough room for the existing exhaust system around the engine, between the chassis, let alone to scavenge power off it with extra pipework and a couple of turbo's - 'cos you'll want twin turbo's don't you?

We call them Centri's ie centrifugal type. Rotrex is a well known brand in the UK. We do buy from CAPA to. Here's a Rotrex I mounted onto a Marcos LM500 many years ago.
