Bit of a 'how long's a piece of string' kind of thread, but I've been offered a swap of sorts with a bit of cash (£1-2k - still working that bit out)the BMWs way for my Mini Cooper S.

The Mini's very much a second car with a great spec and including handsfree bluetooth, USB port for music, sat nav, auto lights and wipers, heated screen, xenon lights, full piped leather, aero bodykit etc.

I do hardly any miles so MPG not an issue. Just fancy a change for something completely different.

Should I jump at it? Silly swap? Would I miss the fun of the Mini?

Obvious thing to consider are the much higher running costs - servicing, brakes, tyres, etc

All depends on your priorities, but for me it'd be going the wrong way on age.

In three years that BMW will be a ten year old car.

True. Though it'll still be 333 BHP. smile

The the 6 series....

The way things are going with emissions, fuel economy and petrol prices large engined cars will get rarer with them dying out. To have the chance to have a V8 for a few years now will be great. In 10 years a small 1.6 supercharged engine will still be around in the grasp of a lot of people. In 10 years time will you have the chance or means to run a big V8?

Even if the car is 10 years old it is still an amazing car and one I would rather spend my time in than many many newer cars.

So when you change cars you only care if its newer?

Yes.

But then I'm not a fan of the new Mini.

Given the choice of those two, I'd take the BMW every time. smile

Every time you get into the 6 and press the starter button will be a sense of occasion and will feel special.

While the Mini is a good competent car and fun it's not in the same league as the 6.

Of course it's all personal opinion but having driven them both for quite a while the 6 far more desirable for me.

I wouldnt , 330bhp is not adequate for a car that size and you will soon get bored of it

the 645

does it have a private plate starting with V8 ?

if so I know the owner and the car and if I had the folding I would purchased it

Having not driven either, 300bhp in a boat or 200bhp in a hot hatch I'd go for the Mini but these days the Mini is probably close to 1.5tonnes so not really a chuckable hot hatch.

Take the 645 for a drive and see what its like.

This is a strange logic, the age of the car matters not.

You're spot on.

How did you manage to work that out?

I know the owner very well as a friend and we used to work together,
as for working it out, a guess which turned lucky going on your location and the BMW's

the owner of the 645 wants a mini, she used to have one.

that BMW is a very nice car and has been well looked after, I have driven it and it ticks all my boxes, if I had the folding I would get it for myself.

i would have no problem recomending the car, its quality or the owner to anyone, who ever get the car will be in a classy well cared for car
