Does anyone have one of these TVs? Thinking of getting the 40 inch one and wondered if they were as good as the reviews say they are?

Hi Anthony.I bought the 40" last week from John Lewis, together with the Orbitsound T12 soundbar. Watching the Jubilee celebrations over the weekend was fantastic. Everything about it is way above expectations.

My wife and I viewed about 20 sets side-by-side at JL and have to confess that the 8000 was streets above the rest, including, Panasonic, LG, and Sony.

One bit of a letdown during the demonstration was the sound, but after a demo of the TV coupled to the Orbitsond T12, we were sold.

Everything was very easy to setup, about an hour in total, including removing the packaging.

The connection to the Internet is a bit slow for us, but that is probably due to our broadband supplier, we are out in the sticks.

In conclusion. I would recommend this package to anyone, go for it and please let me know how you get on. Also, any questions, fire away and I will try and answer them.smile

Alan.

I would love to know which Panasonic the Samsung was better than, it must have been right at the bottom of the range.

Ignore the Panny vs Samsung argument, it's got no more grounding than the iPhone/Android debate. IMHO Panny will never compete with Samsung on quality for your quid and in many cases just don't compete no matter how many quids you have - It all boils down to personal taste.

Anthony, given your perceived budget, take a good look at the Panasonic 42" GT50. Once calibrated, and even out of the box, the picture is excellent. Bonus being you might save a few quid and get a slghtly larger screen. Remember that almost all the TVs on display will be set to a garish Dynamic or equivalent setting to compete with each other as well as the in-store lighting.

If you like HD movies including bluray I'd go for the above, due to its grayscale/blacks performance and the black bezel. If not a movie buff then a good quality LED such as the Samsung may well work for you. Maybe have a read of the avforums' reviews of these two screens.

eta - just noticed there is as yet no avf review of the latest 8 Series. Apparently it's in the pipeline.

Samsung do make some amazing displays and TVs too...

I may consider using a display rather than a TV when it is time to replace the Panasonic TV (which is good...but not as good IMHO as the Smart TV8 series)...just a thought!

The Samsung is a stunning TV....review a few and make up your own mind. The Yamaha sound bars are rather good too...I have one and enjoy it. smile

Kudos

I purchased the previous model 46" 8000 series Samsung tv and soundbar and they are simply the bks. The best £1300 + £230 for the soundbar I have ever spent. The 2012 model is smiles better and I strongly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. Samsung is without doubt probably the leader in LED televisions on sale. Great value for money

I have no experience with previous Samsung TVs, always been a Sony man. However, this latest 8000 series is, as I said in my previous post, fantastic. With the very thin bezel, people on the screen appear to be there with you in the room and that's without the 3D switched on. You can watch any channel in 3D. Eventually I shall probably get a 3D player to experience full 3D , it was demonstrated to me in store and believe me, some of the action shots were pretty scary.

I dont know how much a good looking 3D bluray player cost these days but if you happen to have a PS3, save your money and just use that. You will be surprised as to how many people out there do not realise that the PS3 is one of the best bluray player on the market and is 3D compatible too.
