Hi, I have an 05 Cayenne........somehow I have managed to split they key open when sitting down....no issues you would think - just snap the key back together.

Not so simple - the key buttons now no longer work, however the key unlocks drivers door manually and starts the car (ok thorugh all ignition points) - so assume its communicating with Immobiliser?

Ive been through 6speed, rennlist etc and have tried the below sequences:

- Unlock driver's door + put key in ignition + on position
- Unlock driver's door + open door + push button
- Unlock driver's door + push button 1

Remote lock / unlock still ceases to function.

Im thinking they key thinks its been through a similar cycle to that of a battery change as it was litterally in all of its component parts in my pocket - the circuit board unclipped also....yes, fat b@stard!

Any suggestions apart from being bent over for re-programming by local OPC?

cheers

Might sound silly, but is the battery in the right way?? Is the red indicator light glowing when you press the button?? I'm sure the battery in the key plays no part in the immobiliser chip. You should ba able to take the battery out completely and it should still start the car. Have you possibly broken the circuit board, or maybe a solder joint on the foot of one of the buttons??

I'm not sure if the Cayenne is the same as a 996, but you can't recode the keys without the original barcode? So might be worth looking through your owner's pack to see if you have this, otherwise, probably the dealer's unfortunately!! I know, (with my 996!), I'm just down £347 for 2 replacement remotes and a blade!!

Thanks for the reply, i'll check the battery, keys at home - sure I havent been that daft smile

I didnt know there was a red indicator light.......maybe missed this in the circuit board??

I'll eliminate some of the points you make and check re barcodes and solder points but this does look ok to my (untrained) eye.

fk me £347!!!!! Hpefully i'll only pay half of that if one key only, even so "Stealers"...........

cheers
