Registration advice needed
Discussion
I have a Yamaha quad that I intend converting into a three wheeler - one wheel at the back using motorbike swinging arm. Front tyres would be changed to road type but frame etc would be original so easy to legally change to tricycle without MSVA.
There is a mental debate going on in my head about registration and I'm not sure what direction to go. It will be registered first in current 100% original quad format and then changed to trike a little later.
I can easily get a dating certificate to be allocated an age related registration. This of course would be as a quad and "pre conversion" to a three wheeler.
I can also get registered as an agricultrual vehicle (I have legitimate need / land).
The debate therefore is, first, do I initially register as quadricycle or agricultrual and, second, age related or Q reg.
What is going to make change over to tricycle the easiest ?
Cheers.

An MSVA would be required when it's converted:
MSVA is also a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) requirement for certain vehicles that have been radically altered or built using a mixture of components from previously registered vehicles eg:

- vehicles rebuilt using a second hand frame
- vehicles converted to a different wheelplan

Thanks for reply.
A mate had a nearly new motorbike converted to a trike and all DVLA required was a visual inspection at the local office so automatically assumed it would work the same for me.
Hadn't seen the section about change of wheelplan and reckon that must have been introduced since.
No problem having an MSVA so aren't trying to avoid that (other than cost ! )
The quad is 15+ years old and I've already been told by DVLA exempt from MSVA if I register as a quadricycle with an age verification certificate from Yamaha (yet more cost) or agricultrual.
MSVA required however if I don't obtain proof over 10 years old for Q reg quadricyle catogory so that offsets the cost of the age certificate hence part of the original dilemma.
Looks like the way forward is, as you say, obtain dating certificate (to get age related instead of Q reg), submit for MSVA after converting to trike then register and forget all about putting on the road as a quad first.

I'm not sure that would work.As the quad has never been registered they may not agree to an age related despite the certificate.
