Hey chaps,

I think I have asked this before but I wanna get my car checked but really need an approchable mechanic who knows engines really well. I just want get some stuff checked out, I seem to have excess crankcase pressure. The guy I normally use for the Coupe doesnt know much about Turbo'd cars espcially the C20LET and doesn't want to get too involved which I can appreciate but I need to get some checks done for general health anyway.

Ricky Gauld in huntly? If too far out i'd say wallace or such would be happy enough to help, even with a VX!

Wallace started out as Vauxhall specialists did they not?

I could be wrong on that and even if i'm not doesnt necessarily mean that there will be anyone there that knows about them now.

Crankcase pressure...
Would that not suggest blown head gasket? Perhaps a faulty pressure gauge. Anywhere like Clark Motorsport or Wallace should manage to confirm a fault.

What's the symptoms? Is your coolant pressure cap blowing off? What is it pressure rated too?

My cap failed at 13lb on the noble , upgraded to 22lb and it's been fine.

I wouldn't let him tune my lawn mower.

It could be a problem with the head gasket but also a piston ring, EGR valve or One way valve. What I have is oil getting forced back up the breather pipe a recent compression test has also revealed low compression on cylinder two so all in all the car needs a good looking over and a leak down test (for the sake of head vs piston ring as the problem source). I was supposed to be heading to Santa Pod on Saturday but it is not looking likely now as I can see the engine having to come out so I can rebuild it....again.

Sounds odd, start with cleaning/inspecting/replacing the cheapest potentially failed parts, leave removing the engine till last. Sometimes it's something simple...

Yeah I will have a good look this weekend and check but this low compression is a pretty good indication that she is sick, no wonder there was a lot of coughing going on at the initial part of our lecht trip.

What's the problem(s) with Ricky Gauld?
I've only heard good things about him up 'til this point - but that was Minis and Imps...

Yeah, Wallace used to be boosted Vauxhall specialists at their old place, i'm sure they'd know what to do with it.

I know a few people who used him, all said it took weeks/months to get cars back, still faulty, one even disappeared never to be seen again.

I've used Ricky for almost 20 years and have nothing but good things about him even to the point he helped me out from getting ripped off by another local garage. My Toniq is booked in with him in just over a week to get the carbs set up properly and he has worked on my Renaultsport Megane since I took it out of the show room.

Not exactly in Aberdeen, but I would also consider www.jdmotorengineers.com

They know their stuff and haven't let me down. Great service.
