alpha gen 1 ratio????

would anyone know the correct ratio for the alpha gen 1 leg fitted to a V8 5.7ltr 350efi mercruiser engine?


mines blown the gearbox this evening and i cant make out the ratio on the leg and have a feeling it may be wrong anyway..

Pre 1991 should be 1.5 and post 1991 1.47

You could get away with 1.61/1.65 as you can just adjust the prop to suit within reason.

the boat is a 88 searay monaco, so quite a heavy one but the 350 efi was fitted only a few years ago.

What makes you think it is Gen 1 (pre 1991)?

boat mechanic says its gen one, paperwork i have is for gen one and something about the gen 2 having an oil feed or resevoir ? which mine doesnt..

i have a photo of it if it helps mate in any way?

No problem, so sounds like you have a gen 1 that has had a later engine fitted?

That indicates you probably had the right ratio as long as the earlier engine was a 230 / 260 / 350.

They were all 1.5, higher ratios as you go further down the power list.

id love too, but im more looking at used ones due to cost, ive just spent a fortune on an engine out job to replace the cowhorns, so finances right now are quite scary :O(
