Getting so excited for next weekend now, and a few last minute purchases need to be picked up.

Has anyone ever come across these:

http://www.thesafetysupplycompany.co.uk/p/6379702/...

Now they say they protect up to 82Db, however dont LMP1 cars hit over 108DB.

Just wondering if they are going to be a complete waste of time and make me look like a tool, or if they will be suitable to listen to Radio Lemans and also protect the old hearing.

Thoughts???

Personally, I think these ear defender/radios are brilliant for the race.

They are good for the ears, but having the radio built in does save on annoying wires, making moving around easier.

I say they are a must. Been using them for years. I've got a peltor version, but there are many makes that do them and I'm sure they all do the job well.

Go for it, if you want them.

Great stuff.

I know the Peltors are a much better brand, and im sure they will protect against higher Db levels, im sure covering up to 82Db should be fine though I imagine,

I use some every year and its brilliant but I do get sick of having to tell my mates what's going on every 5 mins, really enhances the viewing and I could (and do) sit and listen to the ramblings of radio Le Mans all day!!

Hi

Those look pretty good

Ref the 108db, that would be a specific measurement at a nominated distance - unlikely to be the sound level you get trackside - not sure what the trackside sound level would be apart from loud smile

But for that price they look worth trying

Read it again.

The FM/AM system is limited to 82dB. That means the max volume of the radio in it is 82dB not what the defenders attenuate.

either way they will cut the sound down and it is better than having headphones with ear defenders on top which are a faff to take off and put on again. I need to try and get a pair if the ones I normally borrow aren't available.

... and dont forget the VAT and delivery charges. If you look for them on Ebay you'll find similar Venitex radio ear defenders a little cheaper

Is there a noticeably better sound with these things than with noise cancelling / isolating earphones?

I used some JVC sound isolating headphones and a very small personal FM radio last year. At no point did I have any trouble hearing what was said on Radio Le Mans no matter how close to the track.

Plus, they look a lot less silly...

Excuse my English. But don't you think you look like a proper dickweed wearing those?

Another vote for the pocket radio & earphones option then?

who cares what you look like, unless you are on the pull at Le Mans, which is generally unadvisable for most.

Am interested to hear sound cancelling headphones work effectively - I am in the paddock and pits all race long and with normal headphones I can't hear a thing. Would be worth trying though - any suggestions for a bargain priced pair that will do the job?

No I don't, I think when you are watching a Motor race its great to be able to keep up with all the action around the circuit., pint of wine in one hand, the droll commentary of RLM, rain dripping down your back at 3:00am! what better way to spend a weekend in a field in France!! tried the small radio and ear phones and it was pretty hard going to hear the thing. These things make the listening easy, don't get in the way of your drinking, smoking, eating. and quite frankly I don't give a toss what you think of how I look.

amen. If you are concerned about what thousands of inebriated men think of your appearance, I would suggest the Pride event in Berlin, not Le Mans.

I know following the race isn't for everyone, but I wouldn't bother going unless I knew I was intending to follow what was going on for the whole thing, subject to a few time outs for drinks and conversations with mates of course. Also it means you don't need the volume on your earphones on full, which for 24 hours is going to deafen you in itself.

Who cares what other people think. I personally find they add a great deal to my race enjoyment, so even if they did... I couldn't really careless. They're for my enjoyment, no one else.

Mine have active noise, so I can have a normal conversation, but when a non diesel goes past, it shuts off the noise. Don't know what the Bose type noise cancelling would be like... Quiet I suppose and radio would be very clear.

I find the combo of my very old Aiwa pocket radio (FM) plus full size but fold up Sony 'phones make a good combination. Mind you, I am aiming for something like Peltor for the future, even though I may look a prat according to some earlier posts here!

It doesn't seem to bother the teams, engineers, drivers and broadcasters who are all wearing cans!

ild like a decent pair off the ear / radio equipped defenders .
however ild only use them once a year .as walking to dog with said attire would seen as weird?
