M5 Running in service
Discussion
Daft question here but do the LCI M5 need the running in service?
The reason i ask is I've bought a 2007 M5 touring from a non BMW dealer, they said the car has FULL SERIVCE history but can't see a stamp in the book, or even a space in the book to stamp a running in service. Ive even rang the £1 a minuite helpline and they have gave me all the dates its been into different dealers, I've rang all them and all checked out however no mention of a running in service, They have even told me it has been covered by BMW warranty from day 1, and the previous owner stopped the warranty when he traded the car in......a few weeks ago!
Any ideas?? Ive had a few m3's and i know they all needed the running in service, which there is a specific place for in the service book? But nothing in this M5 one?
Thanks

Yes, it needs the running in service to be completed per the schedule. I believe they will be happy up to a max of 2000 miles but it should be around 1200 if I remember correct.
If the first owner wasn't conscientious enough to have this carried out, during the honeymoon period too, who knows what else the car has been subjected to?

Just ring the dealer who carried out the first service and ask the mileage at the time. If it was less than 2k then no problem. If you ask that dealer he will supply you with a service booklet and stamp it with the mileage and date carried out, I was charged about £15 plus post for this when I found that the car I had bought had no service book. I would suggest it has been done if the car has had a BMW warranty as they do check before issuing it I understand, and they would definitely not warrant it if it had not. Again, as I understand it, no main dealer will touch a car that has missed this service.
